Kwara State Police Command officers have arrested four-man armed criminal gang that robbed Alhaji Yahaya Ishaku, a cow seller in Oro-Ago (Ifeodun Local Government) of Kwara State.

The suspects are, Bello Baneri 'm', Umaru Shehu 'm', Awalu Umaru 'm' and Mamma Muhammed 'm' all of Fulani camp in Oro-Ago.

SP Okasanmi Ajayi (the spokesperson for the state police command), disclosed that Mamman Mohammed was one of the prime suspects. He told his gang about the sale by the victim of cows and then planned and executed an ambush for the victim as he returned from the market.

“A team of policemen and members of Miyetti Allah of Oro-Ago in a combined operation went in search of a gang of armed robbers, whose stock-in-trade was mainly robbing unsuspecting citizens in the area, of their money and goods on market days.

The operation became necessary after the intelligence compass pointed to the fact that the perpetrators were hibernating in the Fulani camp in Oro-Ago.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the first suspect by name, Mamma Mohammed ‘M’ was hired by the complainant to help him load his cows in the vehicle while embarking on the journey to the market to sell the cows.''

According to police, the victim was riding his bike back to camp when he was stopped by the gang. They hit him with sticks on the head and he fell from the motorcycle. He then became unconscious. The assailants searched him and took the N600,000:00 proceeds from the sales.

Ajayi stated that the suspects had confessed to the crime. The sum of N400,000, which was part the stolen money, was recovered. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining balance.

He said that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Tuesday Assayomoo, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID), Ilorin, for further investigations. To avoid any such incidents, he advised employers to do background checks on all employees.
