NDLEA uncovers 442 parcels of Crystal Meth in heads of smoked fish in Lagos by D1ANA(f) : 4:57 pm On Aug 14, 2022



Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has found no fewer that Four Hundred And Forty Two (442) packages of Crystal Methamphetamine in heads of fishes. These were packed in cartons and shipped to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, via the SAHCO shed at Murtala Muhammed International airport, Ikeja Lagos.

Femi Babafemi, Director Media & Advocacy of the agency stated on August 14 that, the 11.90 kg consignment was brought by Adekunle Oluwapelumi, a 32-year-old freight agent from Yagba West LGA in Kogi State on Friday 5th August. He was immediately arrested after discovering that the seven cartons he had presented for export contained dangerous drugs wrapped in foil paper and hidden in the heads of hundreds of smoked catfish.

On Saturday 6 August, the following day, another consignment containing 1.45kg of cannabis was intercepted by NDLEA operatives. It was packed with granulated melon, crayfish, and other condiments going to Dubai, UAE. Ajisefini Lateef who presented the cargo for export at the SAHCO shed. The agent, 39 years old, is from Abeokuta LGA in Ogun State.

Anti-narcotics officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu arrested Mgbeobuna Victor Eberechukwu, a 50-year-old, for having ingested 77 cocaine pellets. Following his arrival from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he was taken into custody on Saturday 6th August.

The suspect, who is from Idemili South LGA in Anambra state, passed out the 77 wraps in eight excretions over a period of four days.

In Kaduna, Saifullahi Sai, Salisu Nfi'u, and Abdulrazaq Mamman were taken into custody in Zaria with One Million One Hundred And Twelve Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty (1,112,350), tablets of Tramadol (225mg & 100mg respectively) weighing 38.3kg. While in Kano, Saratu Abdullahi (28) from Wurno was arrested at Hotoro with 541 cannabis blocks weighing 245kg.

During a joint inspection with Customs and other security agencies, NDLEA operatives in Lagos recovered 1,773.25kg of cannabis sativa from Ebutte-Meta, Mushin and Akala areas in separate raid operations between 9th and 10th Aug. At the Tincan seaport in Lagos, 86 parcels of cannabis indica (Colorado) weighing 43kg were recovered from a 40ft container. On Friday, 12th August, the illegal consignment was seized from Toronto via Montreal. It was hidden in two drums in a Mercedes Benz SUV.

Two suspects were arrested in Abia: Nnanna Ijo (58) and Orji Urguru (29). They were found with various amounts of heroin, cannabis and cocaine at Nde-Agbai. This happened a week after Nnanna was released for a similar offense committed in June.

After commending the Officers and men of MMIA, AIIA, Tincan, (Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Abia State) Commands of the Agency for the seizures and arrests, he (Chairman of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd)) charged them and their compatriots across the globe to always remain a step ahead of the drug cartels.
