Taiwo Liadi won Nigeria's 1st Silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Liadi, who participated in the women's weightlifting event at 76kg, set a junior Commonwealth Games record. She finished second to Maya Laylor of England, who set a new Commonwealth Games mark in clean and jerk, with a lift exceeding 128kg.

Liadi lifted 120kg during the clean and then jerked to set a junior record. She beat 11 other competitors to win the silver medal. Maximina Uepa from Nauru won the bronze medal.

Laidi's win means that Nigeria now holds five medals (two golds, one silver, and two bronze) from the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
