Two-storey building under construction in Ijofin Street, Ilesa (Osun State), collapsed Saturday, causing panic and chaos.

Olusegun, a local resident, said that the incident took place around 12:45 pm.

Olusegun said that the first floor of the affected structure collapsed on the ground level. A passer-by was also almost struck by the rubble, Olusegun stated.

Olabisi Atanda (Osun Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps) commented on the incident. He said that operatives from the corps had visited the scene.

Atanda stated that although no lives were lost, the command had ordered the evacuation of those living in the area adjacent to the collapsed building.

She said, “Today, July 23, 2022, a two-floor storey building located at Ijofin Street, Wesley Guild Hospital road, Ilesa, collapsed at about 12:45hrs.

“The building is said to have been under construction for the past two years. A bungalow beside the collapsed building is at risk because of the state of the affected building. We have ordered the evacuation of residents in the next building. No casualty was recorded. Men of the corps were on ground to provide maximum security.”
