The lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Bassey Akpan officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, July 20.

Akpan, who was elected in 2019 under the PDP platform, was a frontline PDP governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom but lost to Pastor Umo Eno on May 25, a former commissioner for lands, water resources, and state.

The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, received a letter informing him of his departure. It was read during legislative proceedings by Senator Lawan.
