Kenneth Okonkwo a Nollywood actor who has quit the All Progressives Congress because the party decided to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 elections.

PUNCH reports that Bola Tinubu (APC presidential candidate) announced Kashim Shettima (ex-Governor of Borno State), as his running mate, despite opposition from some quarters for a ticket of the same faith.

In a Monday letter, the actor announced his decision via Instagram.

He said his decision became imperative following Tinubu's choice of Shettima as running mate despite clamor from stakeholders and other Nigerians that a Christain northerner should complement the party's ticket.

The letter included the following: "Remember that you joined APC due to its Constitutional promise, as true Progressives or Patriots, in order to eliminate any form of discrimination and injustice in Nigeria. This will help build a nation that will guarantee equal opportunities for all and promote peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

"Those ideals are now alienated to the APC with their unfortunate decision of painting our Muslim brothers in had lights, by insinuating Nigerian Muslims will not vote for a Northern Christian Vice-President to pair up with a Southern Muslim.

"If Muslims were able to vote for Southern Christian Presidents, then it would be a fallacy that they could not accept a Northern Christian Vice president. If allowed to continue, this will permanently end the political viability and viability of Northern Christians Nigeria.

“Being the convener of the Campaign for Equity and Justice in Nigeria, and as a former member of APC Presidential Campaign Council, which resisted same religion presidential ticket in the past, I can no longer continue to lend my name to these abnormalities in the interest of our peaceful co-existence, integration, and progress of our beloved country.”
