A high court in Birninkebbi (Kebbi State) sentenced Suleiman Idris 25 years old, a citizen from Niger Republic, to death by hanging.

Idris was convicted of killing a mother, Sa'adiya Idris, and her daughter, khadiza alkali, at Alabama Quarters, Birninkebbi (the capital of Kebbi State), in April this year.

Justice Suleiman Ambursa ruled that the defendant was being arraigned under two counts of homicide, which are punishable by death under Sections 191(a) and (b), Kebbi State Penal Code 20201.

After the defendant had pleaded guilty to the crime the presiding judge sentenced him to death via hanging.

The defendant’s counsel, Barrister Suleiman Alkali, said the law had made a provision for appeal, but it was not yet decided on the next line of action.
