Many were feared dead and others injured when jets belonging to the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), bombed Kunkuna village in Safana Local Government Area, Katsina State.

Guardian reported that the incident took place at about 11:00 pm on Tuesday, July 5, shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari's advance team convoy was attacked by terrorists along the Dutsinma -Yantumaki road, in the Dutsinma council area.

Dutsinma borders the Safana council, so terrorists operating in Dutsinma often escape to Safana, where the dangerous Zakka forest is found. The Zakka forest extends into Zamfara, and reports indicate that terrorist enclaves are located within these forests.

Daily Trust reported that the jet also missed the correct targets during an operation against bandits camps in the region.

Guardian was told by sources that many of the villagers died when the bombs went off, while others suffered injuries. Many homes were also destroyed in the blast.
