Woman arrested for allegedly stealing and selling her sister's child for N600,00 by atoluwash(m) : 10:10 am On Jun 16, 2022

Rivers State police arrested a woman who stole her sister's child and sold it to an unidentified buyer in Imo for N600,000.

Friday Eboka, the state commissioner of police, disclosed the information to newsmen as he parades the suspects. Peace Emmanuel, the mother of the victim, visited Omagwa on May 20, 2022 to report that her five-year-old daughter had gone missing.

Peace Emmanuel, a woman of five years reported her 5-year-old daughter missing on May 20, 2012. The Omagwa Police Station was notified.

It was later transferred to the Commissioner for Police Monitoring Team at Force Avenue, Port Harcourt. They began an investigation, and it was eventually discovered that her sister had arranged for her to steal her child. She eventually sold it to Imo State's lady for N600,000.

We went to the rescue and were able to save the little girl. Two suspects were also taken into custody. Ejike Edith (aged 30) is the main suspect. She also mentioned other people who committed that crime. These are Prince Ugwu, 26, and Nkiruja Sam, 26. They were also arrested and are now with us. The person who gave birth to the baby is now in Imo State. We are working to make sure that he is taken into custody to face the law.

Eboka also revealed that the state police found a kidnapper's den in a Kaani community forest, Khana LGA, and rescued the victims. They also recovered several AK47 rifles used in the rescue.

"Similarly, on May 27, the same anti-kidnapping unit also arrested one Messiah Wisdom. The suspect would invite girls to his house, drug them, make love to them, video them and threaten them to bring the sum of N1m or risk the chance of the video going viral.

We also received information on Wednesday that people were looking to purchase AK-47 rifles. We developed that information and sent our men off to pose as the people looking to sell the rifles.

Two men eventually came forward to purchase the rifles. The rifles were purchased by them for N850,000 each. They wanted to purchase four pieces. They brought a boat along and the N1.3m deposit.

They promised that when we follow them to the river, they would give us the balance in the river. But these two people were arrested and the money was recovered.

The third suspect escaped with their boat. They confessed to the crime and claimed they wanted to purchase the rifles for their community. "I don't know the source of their permission to carry AK-47 rifles in order to protect their community."

According to the police boss, all suspects will be brought before the court once the investigation is complete.
