Gunmen wounded three students in Kuru, Jos South Local Gov Area of Plateau state after killing a student at a boarding school.

Punch stated that all of the victims were students at a local boarding school. They were allegedly going to recharge their phones at a nearby filling station. The gunmen opened fire, killing one and inflicting three more injuries.

The publication was told by an eyewitness that the incident occurred at around 7:30 PM on Friday, June 10.

Sunday Gyang, a community leader in the region, said that

"What actually happened was that some Fulani herdsmen, who were using their cows for the destruction of farmlands in the community yesterday afternoon (Friday), were driven out. They sent terrorists to attack this community last night (Friday).

"A few students from Science school Kuru were affected when they went to charge their phones. One of the victims was killed instantly after being shot in the neck. Others were taken to hospital with injuries.

"The terrorist attack on the community would be more devastating if it weren't for the fact that some security escorts were on transit and responded to the incident and chased away the terrorists."

The State Police Command issued a statement in response to the incident by its Public Relations Officer.

"The Plateau State Police Command has noticed the news that some sections of the media space are reporting that Science School Kuru and Jos are under attack from terrorist groups.

The Command would like to clarify that the Command received information that unknown hoodlums were shooting along Mararaban Jama'a and Riyom roads, not Science School, Kuru Jos, as reported by various media outlets. A high-powered team made up of policemen and security personnel quickly responded to the report and mobilized at the scene.

"The gunmen fled the scene leaving behind one dead and three injured. The wounded were immediately taken to the hospital. The Police are still looking for the suspects fleeing. CP Bartholomew Onyeka (Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command) advised the public to continue their lawful business, as normalcy was already restored in the region.

He also assured us that his men were on the ground to stop any disruptions to peace. To avoid misleading them, the CP advised the Press to double-check all facts before reporting high-security issues to the public.
