One Wakilu Ogundairo was arrested by Ogun State Police Command for allegedly creating a Whatsapp voice message in which he raised false alarms about the Boko Haram terrorist invasion of Imosan Ijebu with a cache of arms and circulated the same on social media, thereby causing panic among law-abiding citizens. DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi (spokesman for the state police command) stated that the suspect was taken into custody after the voice message went viral. People from all walks of life began calling the emergency number to express concern about the safety of their loved ones in Ijebu Ode and the entire Ogun state. "''The commissioner for police, CP Lanre Bankole then swiftly directed the DPO obalende to move into the area to verify the authenticity of the WhatsApp voice note. SP Salami Murphy (DPO Obalende division), moved into the area to conduct thorough investigations in compliance with the CP'S orders. During the investigation, it was found that only Benue farm laborers were in the area and are legitimately carrying out their business without violence. After discovering that the viral voice message was a false alarm, DPO and his detectives went to investigate technical details which led them to the hideout where the man was responsible. He was taken into custody and arrested. He confessed to interrogation that he only made the voice note in order to scare the public and that there was no invasion anywhere. "The statement was read CP Lanre Bankole (Commissioner of Police) has ordered an in-depth investigation into the past activities and plans to bring the suspect to trial as soon as possible. |
