Operatives from the Kano State Police Command have arrested Chidera Anuna (a fake soldier) for extortion.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa stated that the suspect belonged to a syndicate that specialized in extorting people in the state.

The statement stated that between 01/03/2022 & 30/03/2022, reports indicated that two men used to pose as soldiers and rob people at night in the Sabon Gari area, Kano State.

"Furthermore on the 30/03/2022, Joseph Ifeanyi Usalo of Kofar Ruwa Market Kano complained about the same syndicate that included one Miracle Nnamoko went to his shop at Kofar Ruwa Market and was intimidated by the other in Military Camouflage. He forced him to transfer the sums of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000:00), and Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (N35,000:00), into Miracle Nnamoko’s account bearing Chidera Anuna.

They also took his iPhone 12 Pro Max Mobile phone, valued at seven hundred and eighty thousand Naira (N780,000.00), and also stole the password.

"Upon receipt of the reports, the Kano State Command Commissioner of Police, CP Sama'ila Shu'aibu Dikko raised and directed an Operation Puff Adder team led by CSP Alhaji Ado Salisu, to conduct continuous intelligence-led Surveillance operations in the area.

Miracle Nnamoko ('m'), of Belatus Road Sabon Gari Quarters Kano, was arrested on 08/04/2022. He admitted to the crime and named Chidera Anune ('m'), who owned the camouflage, as his accomplice. He was arrested and brought before Magistrate Court 64 Ungogo to be charged with prosection. The search for Chidera continues.

"On 31/05/2022, Chidera Anuna, 'm', was arrested by the personnel from 455 Base Services Group, Nigerian Air Force Kano, dressed in suspected Military camouflage at Sabon Gari Quarters Kano and handed over to Kano State Police Command.

"On investigation, Chidera was found in possession of two iPhones Mobile Handsets and an Infinix Mobile Phone suspected to be robbed. He also confessed to the crime and confessed that he is neither a military officer nor any security personnel. The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation."

Meanwhile, CP Sama'ila Shu'aibu Dikko (Commissioner of Police Kano State Command) warned that criminals would not be able to hide in Kano State.
