Police officers from the Delta state police command have killed three suspected kidnappers.

DSP Bright Edafe, a spokesperson for the state police, stated that the incident took place on Monday, June 5, at 12.35 pm.

It said:

"On June 5, 2022, at 12.35, commandos of the Rapid Response Squad were on an undercover patrol along the Asaba/Benin Expressway. Some armed hoodlums, believed to be kidnappers, suddenly emerged from Umunede axis.

"The space bus was attacked by hoodlums who fired shots at it in an attempt to rob the occupants and possibly kidnap them. However, they were unaware that the occupants were undercover officers.

"The team smartly got out of the vehicle and fired back. Realizing that they were potential victims, the hoodlums ran into the bush.

The team engaged in a gun battle with the hoodlums, during which three members of their gang were killed.

"The injured hoodlums were brought to the hospital but they died during treatment."

Police recovered one fabricated revolver pistol and six 7.62mm live rounds, as well as four 7.62mm ammunition. The police are still on the lookout for the remaining members of the gang.

Another development is that a 48-year-old Suleiman Musa, a specialist in the theft of home goods, was also arrested by Delta state police.

He was able to recover 540 rounds of cartridges, three generators, and one solar light. Also, one sewing machine, two television sets, and one motorcycle.

While on patrol along Asaba Ogwashi-Uku Expressway with the Eagle-Net Special Squad, Operatives also intercepted a vehicle commercially and arrested Edea Samuel, a 20-year-old male.

The items found included 4,054 wraps of suspected cocaine and 954 heroine wraps in a bag belonging to one of his passengers.
