Two people were killed and several others were abducted by gunmen believed to be kidnappers who attacked a bus on Obbo Ayegunle Osi Road, Ekiti Local Government Area in Kwara State.

The incident took place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 4th when armed men attacked an 18-seater bus carrying REG NOXC 167MUN from Ilorin.

One Mama Ariye and the driver were killed in the incident. The rest of the passengers were taken, hostage.

Ajayi Okasanmi of the State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday, 6 June 5. He said that the commissioner of police had directed that a huge manhunt be launched for the perpetrators.

The statement stated that "Upon receiving the information from the police Obbo Ayegunle policemen, vigilantes, local hunters, and any other members of sister agencies on the ground immediately raced towards the scene."

"The bodies of the deceased were found and placed at Carosi Hospital mortuary Osi for autopsy. They stormed the bushes to rescue the kidnapped victims.

Cp Tuesday Assayomo (Commissioner of Police), upon hearing about the unfortunate incident, directed that a massive hunt for the perpetrators must begin. He also gave a marching order to the Area Commander and Divisional Police Officers covering that area to move into the bush to ensure that kidnapped victims are rescued and their kidnappers were arrested."

The Commissioner of Police sympathized with the families of the victims and assured them that they would be taken to justice.

He said, "Consequently, the CP directed a 24-hour surveillance of the area with the assistance of other sister security agencies in order to increase the confidence of people and prevent further attacks in the area."
