Ikuforiji Olaitan, better known as Oxlade, is undoubtedly one of the rising stars in the music industry. His hit song, Away, was named as one of the top songs of 2020 by Rolling Stone.

Speaking in an interview, the singer stated that to get to this level in his career, he had to sacrifice a lot of things, including a relationship with his dad. He said, “Sacrifices are common in every profession if one wants to achieve the maximum goal. I had to sacrifice a lot of things, including my relationship with my dad, but I have been able to mend that now. I had to leave the house to focus on my career and I am glad it is paying off now. Even my dad is proud of me.”

Olaitan also admitted that he was amazed when his song was named as one of the top tracks of 2020. He said, “It is an amazing feeling for my track to be featured as one of the best songs of the year. It is no small feat. When one goes into the studio to create new music, one has no idea what would come after that. No amount of planning and execution could be equal to God’s grace. The recognition has made me aware of the many eyes on me and that motivates me to keep going. 2021 would definitely be better and I would try not to disappoint the fans.”

Oxlade also noted that his EP, Oxygene, was inspired by heartbreak. “Oxygene was inspired by heartbreak. As for putting it (heartbreak) into songs, I believe everyone can see the results. I think the songs came out quite great. You can as well take a deeper dive into what I felt when you watch the video for O2,” he said.

Asked if he got naughty requests from female fans, he responded, “There is no way one would be a rising star of this magnitude and not get random naughty requests. But, I don’t focus on things like that. I just keep making music and engaging my fans. I try to attend to each and every one of them, aside from the naughty requests.”
