Why your articles get rejected for Exaggerated headline and Inconsistent picture


When your article is rejected and the rejection message says; “Your article was rejected because the headline is exaggerated, and the headline/picture does not match the content” this simply implies 2 things which we will discuss below.

Exaggerated headline

This means that your headline is used to entice readers to articles and does not have the content that is promised or implied in the title.

This means that your headline will manipulate readers into clicking the article.

NOTE: Whatever you promise in your headline must be delivered to your audience in the content. For instance, if you included the word 'Photos' or 'Video' in your headline, and in the content, it can't be found, it would be rejected for an exaggerated headline.

Below are some of the phrases that can get your article rejected as an exaggerated headline.

Headline Inconsistent with Content: (headline/picture does not match the content)

This means that the headline and the picture do not tally. You can’t write an article about Obasanjo and use Fela Anikulapo Kuti as Image. They must go hand in hand in order not to confuse readers.

Examples:

Fake News: "None of our soldiers were at Lekki toll gate." Nigerian Army denies shooting protesters.


The article shown in the image above is inconsistent because the headline talks about Nigerian Army and the author used an image of Buratai who doesn’t have any connection with content. As much as he is a Nigerian Army, he didn’t give the statement contained in the content.

The article above is inconsistent also. Author mentioned that there is a video in the content but there is no video present in the content and no link to click to view the video.

Nigerians blasts Nnamdi Kanu for saying these on the EndSARS protest


Unlike as suggested in the headline, the statement was not directly made by Nnamdi Kanu and there are only 2 reactions which could have been fabricated by the author.
