Best goalkeeper for the next AFCON by Abimola(m) : 9:30 am On Jun 16, 2020

Nigeria Sport
Except there is a change in date due to the novel Coronavirus, African countries will converge on Cameroon for the 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations and as expected, the Super Eagles of Nigeria should also be there. Just a victory in the next two Africa Cup Of Nations qualifying fixtures against Sierra Leone, Nigeria's flag will be hoisted and it will be the second time the AFCON will have 24 teams competing for honours.
With 2021 just around the corner, it is safe to say that Nigeria have got talented players in all department on the pitch from the defence to the attack, the Experience of Kenneth Omeruo, the strength of William Troost Ekong, the versatility of Semilogo Ajayi and Ola Aina as well as the pace of Tyron Ebuhehi and Shehu Abdulahi not leaving out the fast new boy Kingsley Ehizibue if he proves himself.
How about having Eberechi Eze deciding to play for Nigeria to add to what Wilfred Ndidi, Etebo Oghenekaro, Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo and others have been doing? We are also blessed with the best legs in Africa in wide areas.
The mesmerizing Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon (The Cat With Nine Lives), Samuel Kalu, Henry Onyekuru and then Victor Osimhen and Cyriel Dessers just to mention a few will give Nigeria worthy representation no doubt.
But between the sticks, who takes the number one position?. Presently, 33 year old South Africa based Daniel Akpeyi is the first choice goalkeeper, he was in charge at the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations where Nigeria finished third, he would be 34 in 2021 and 35 in 2022 if the AFCON gets a shift in date.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa is also in his 30's while the young Francis Uzoho has not been lucky with injury, Germany based Maduka Okoye is also 19 and could have been getting enough playing time before then, but I'm not sure they would be ready by then.
Though Uzoho was Nigeria's number one shot stopper at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, but losing his place just a year after at the Nations cup and returning to being a third choice goalkeeper speaks volume.
There's a very decent Nigerian goalkeeper in Latvia with Ventspils Football Club, his name is Dele Alampasu.
Alampasu is a former Junior International, he is 23 and has been to major tournaments at junior levels. One thing keeps working for him, his sharp reflexes, he should be about the sharpest Nigerian goalkeeper in Europe as we speak.
He moved to Latvia to enable him play regularly and i believe he will come good before the cup of Nations, but before then, he needs to be invited to the National team again to compete with those on ground, if performance and merit is the basis as it's been said, Alampasu has what it takes to force his way into the National Team
However, Akpeyi looks like the old wine that's tasting better, very reliable in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs and will most likely get the nod again going forward, but you can tell other goalkeepers that once Alampasu gets a recall, I see a boy who is ready to solve the goalkeeping debate in the Super eagle
