In a bide to reduce the traffic gridlock in Lagos, the state government have turned up to execute fourth mainland bridge. The fourth mainland bridge is a proposed 38 km long bridge and expressway with a design speed of 140km per hour by Lagos State government, connecting Lagos Island by ,Lakki, Langbasa, Baiyekun towns and across Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga in Ikorodu. The idea of fourth mainland bridge was conceptualize by the government of senator Bola Hamed Tinubu, former Lagos State governor. The construction of the project was planned to commence in 2017 and complete by 2019, but had not been started as at today 27th of April 2020. The project was estimate to cost the state N844 billion in 2017 budget.



There is a better chance for the project construction to be commence before the tenour of the present governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu will run out, as his administration have being showing keen interest commencing the project.

On April 24, 2020. The state government announce the shortlisted of 10 companies who have qualified and pass the first stage of tender board. Among them are 6 Chinese company and four others, among them are; Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Mota-Engil, Makais Energy and IC ICTAS Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret S.A. 32 companies was reportedly show interest in executing the project before first batch of tender board screening.

It is believe that, at the completion of the bridge, it will reduce traffic on third mainland bridge and Eko bridge my diverting people going to Ikorodu and its environ making use of the bridge and people going to Ijebu ode, Imota from Lago Island to make use of the bridge and reduce the number of people taking the risk of unequipped flying boat.
