President Donald Trump called a reporter in attendance at the White House “very rude” for asking about banning transgender people from the military.

While addressing a group from the American Legion, an off-camera woman shouted, “How did you decide your policy on transgender people in the military?”

Shaking his head, Trump looked at the woman, looked away, and said, “She’s very rude.”

Trump on Wednesday revealed in a series of tweets that he has banned transgender people from serving in any branches of the United States military.


Trump on Twitter wrote, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

“Thank you,” he added.

Trump’s latest policy shift comes on the heels of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines chiefs request that a six-month delay be instituted before allowing transgender people to enlist in the armed services.

''The Obama-era policy allowing transgender people in the military — established in June 2016 — was set to begin accepting transgender service members on July 1.

As the July 1 date loomed closer, U.S. military leaders requested a delay and claimed that more time was needed to study the ramifications of allowing transgender people into the armed services, and what type of impact such a change would have on the “readiness” of the forces.

Currently, there are approximately 250 armed service members receiving medical care to begin formally transitioning to their desired gender identities.
