Manchester United have confirmed that they have signed Nathan Bishop from Southend United on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Manchester Confirm the Signing of Young Southend United Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop

Exciting Young Prospect

Last season saw Bishop breaking through into the Southend starting line-up, making 18 appearances and keeping three clean sheets.

He has continued to impress this season, despite the Shrimpers currently being in the relegation zone. Bishop has featured 15 times for Sol Campbell’s side.

Nathan Bishop is likely to be one for the future for Manchester United. It is likely that he will join up with the U23’s at first, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having several first-team goalkeepers to pick from.

The 20-year-old is also an England U20 international, having played once for his age group.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official Manchester United website on his arrival at Old Trafford, Bishop said: “The opportunity to join Manchester United is a dream come true.

“I want to take the chance to thank everyone at Southend for everything they have done for me throughout my time there; without there support, this move would not have been possible.”

The 20-year-old thanked his coaches when speaking to the Southend United website before he made the move to Old Trafford: “I’ve loved every second at Southend.

“It was an honour to play for the club.

“I want to thank everyone who I met from managers, coaching staff, the guys in the kitchen and everyone, especially the fans for accepting me and helping me throughout my time at the club.

“I also want to thank Lee Harrison and Ox [Mark Oxley]. Both had a massive part to play in everything that happened for me at Southend and I’m truly grateful for all the help and support they gave me!

“I wish Southend the best of luck for the future.”
