Catfish farming is a very lucrative agricultural business. There are two major types of catfish farming, which you can either operate separately or together. These particular two types are the nursery catfish farming and the grow out catfish farming. Although in catfish farming the grow out catfish is dependent of the nursery catfish because you can’t actually grow catfish without the nursery.
Furthermore, the nursery is all about the inducement of the female fish to lay eggs, which are then fertilized, incubated and later hatched. These little fishes are actually known as fries. The fries are then nurtured from about 3 to 4 weeks into fingerlings which is the size suitable for use in the grow out catfish farming. Starting a catfish farming business is a major investment operation, therefore one actually need to be very careful.
The primary operation in catfish farming is the nursery and grow out operation. The nursery and grow out operation involves the nurturing of the catfish from 3 or 4 weeks where they grow into post fingerlings, mini juveniles and juveniles respectively. 3. Proximity to water supply: From my little experience one of the best water for catfish farming is from bore hole. 1 or 2 bore hole must be sunk to guarantee steady water supply. Make sure you install an overhead tank for holding water.


4. The construction of pond: In the area of pond construction it is advisable to engage the service of a consultant. Without been told the success or failure of this project actually depends largely on the construction of a standard pond that can stand the test of time.

Furthermore, in constructing or designing a pond for catfish production one of the major things to consider is the flatness or steepness of the area and also the source of water supply.
