I think of Christ as my spouse, but that's theological language. I Would not say Christ is my husband. That imitates human phrases too much. When I do my own taxes I am still single. I don't make supper for Christ. But remember, at the Catholic Church each priest is espoused to the church. In our theology, spouse is a far richer term. To be mystically espoused to Christ is to be a indication of the planet to come where we'll all be united to God.

We're like living icons.



Also unlike nuns, who may take the vow of celibacy after previously experiencing sexual relations, members of Malashanko’s vocation have to be lifelong virgins.

I was raised Catholic, and as a child I always prayed for everybody. I Used to beg for all the personalities of "Mr. Rogers" and "Sesame Street." A Good Deal of Girls like me might have chosen to become a nun. I was receptive to being a Nun or open to marriage, I just thought I would move where God took me.

dated throughout my teens and at college. Finally I started Noticing and feeling perplexed about the fact that I had started to feel very agitated. Whatever guy I had been with felt to be an invasion, a wheel. I didn't know why I had been having that feeling. I simply knew I did not want to grow near some guy. I had that feeling for around a year, and that is when I found out about this vocation. I thought, "Oh, that made sense"

Being a consecrated virgin is all about being completely on Earth, which Means I follow the Lord where he is leading me. For a religious sister, where he leads her is community and structure. There's this sort of separation from the world because she lives in a community. Her day is shielded and structured. There's time for prayer time for study. Together with my vocation, my freedom is still wide open. As long as I'm structuring my period in a way which makes sense, my spiritual director is nice with this. I truly thrive on that flexibility.

Looking ahead in my life I could see I was walking into this great next phase. Other than my funeral this is the biggest event of my life, my mystical marriage to Christ.
