Tiffani Obi, 23, had her Chrysler Pacifica swiped off the street in Brooklyn on Thursday, after leaving the key in the ignition while she went shopping.
Obi returned to find that her vehicle had vanished, before she called 911 and told cops the six-year-old boy was in the back seat.
Her claim triggered 'an urgent response' from the NYPD who rushed out additional units to deal with what they believed was a kidnapping case, the New York Daily News reports.
