Kodak Black has been on a roll these past few days. First, he goes on his IG Live and talks about how he doesn’t like black women. Then, he clarifies his comments saying that he does in fact like black women but only those with lighter skin complexions and not “black b*tches”. Now he’s come back and straight jumped off the bridge, saying that he doesn’t like his complexion and giving us an age old stereotype for why he prefers light-skin women.



According to him, dark-skinned women are “gutta” and “tough” while light-skinned women are “sensitive” and easier to get along with. We shouldn’t expect much from this Orange Is The New Black character looking dude but come on! It’s a shame that he doesn’t have respect for the individuals that are primarily the reason why his music is even popping in the first place. Yeah, there’s plenty of dudes in the hood that think Kodak is the realest rappers out but we know those dusty bums aren’t buying his music.

Go to your local college when a DJ plays “No Flocking” or “Skrt Skrt”. It’s mainly black women of varying shades and social backgrounds turnt to his music. Why hasn’t anyone let Kodak know that this isn’t what he wants to do? He’s alienating his fan base something serious! He’s making himself the but of a serious joke, as black women both light and dark- skinned say they don’t want him!

Listen, there’s nothing wrong with having a preference. Like who you want to like. If Kodak said he liked white women I wouldn’t care. It becomes an issue when you start throwing women who are the very essence of your being under the bus. What Kodak Black says does matter because his comments are used as a way to continue the narrative that black men aren’t down for black women. Then , the worst thing about it is that he decided to say this at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. That’s a magazine for black women!

I’m done! Kodak makes some nice music but I wish he’d stop talking.
