The 100-strong shortlist for the 2019 award has been released
Five young players from Chelsea have been included on the Tuttosport 'Golden Boy' award shortlist that was released on Saturday evening.
The award names the best player of 21 years or younger who is registered to a top division European club, previous winners include former Spurs man Rafael van der Vaart and Matthijs De Ligt.
A shortlist of 100 players has been released, before it get whittled down by 20 each month until, in October the final 20 battle it out to be crowned the best young player in Europe.
The Five players Chelsea players included are; Ethan Ampadu, Marc Guehi, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount and Dujon Sterling.
Both Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi have managed to make the breakthrough into the first team at Stamford Bridge this season, with the latter becoming an invaluable part of Maurizio Sarri's squad. In fact that impact hasn't gone unnoticed as the 18-year-old earned his first senior international England cap this season. He has unfortunately had to sit out the end of the season due to an achilles injury.
Marc Guehi was included in the squad for the last Premier League game of the season against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, but is yet to make a first team appearance for the Blues. While Dujon Sterling and Mason Mount have both impressed out on loan, Sterling at Coventry City and Mount at Derby County.
The young players may take on a more significant role in Chelsea's squad next season due to the two-window transfer ban hanging over the club.
