Kenya is the first African country to start using a new generic Aids drug that can improve and prolong the lives of people who suffer severe side effects and resistance to other treatments, the Reuters news agency reports.

Dolutegravir (DTG), which was first approved in the US in 2013, is being given to 20,000 patients in Kenya before being rolled out in Nigeria and Uganda later this year with the backing of global health initiative Unitaid.

Kenyan patient Doughtiest Ogutu, who started taking the drug earlier this year because of resistance to other treatments, says her appetite is back:

“I had constant nightmares and no appetite. My appetite has come back… My body is working well with it.”

Unitaid is working to bring the drug to market quickly and to reduce manufacturing costs by allowing generic companies to access patents for a small royalty and produce them cheaply for the developing world.

About 1.5 million Kenyans are HIV positive, with more than two-thirds on treatment according to the National AIDS and STI Control Program.

Football fans look forward to the World Cup. It is one of the greatest celebrations of the ability of sports to make people of all ages and races come together and the 2018 World Cup is not any less anticipated on the part of fans but there are problems elsewhere.

It is now less than a year to go but FIFA has only managed to fill in 12 of its sponsorship spots out of the 34 spots that it has to offer. The body has also been unable to attract a broadcaster to carry the games in the host country



It is, however, not hard to pick out a number of reasons why FIFA is having difficulty in finding sponsors for the 2018 World Cup. We will check out five of them below;

The Corruption Scandal

Sponsors are possibly reluctant to associate with FIFA which has been riding out a corruption scandal since 2015. The corruption scandal implicated former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, who was suspended alongside other top officials.

Last year, the lawyers representing FIFA said that Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke, and Markus Kattner wrongly profited $80m (£55m) from
the organisation in the past five years. Sepp Blatter was FIFA’s former president, Jerome Valcke was the former secretary general and Markus Kattner was the former deputy secretary general.

Investigators said that the three allegedly enriched themselves with a series of salary increases, bonuses and incentives in the past five years, some of which broke the law.





Gianni Infantino was quick to refute them but that may not have been enough for sponsors to back the body that has gained a terrible reputation.

The fact that Russia is hosting

Russia has not exactly garnered themselves a stellar record in sporting competitions and they are the hosts of the 2018 World Cup. In fact, The Mail covered a story on Russian players being probed by FIFA as part of a broader scandal over allegations of state-backed doping in the country.

This story reignited a series of calls for Russia to be excluded as a host for the 2018 World Cup. According to them, the FIFA President admitted that some of the workers from North Korea worked under conditions that are “often appalling.” Local reports alleged that accommodation for the North Korean and other workers was in crowded storage containers outside the stadium, and a North Korean man was apparently found dead in one of the storage containers, having suffered a heart attack.



Human rights abuses are a taint on the 2018 World Cup preparations that would be enough to scare off any potential sponsors that do not want to be associated with such practices.

Accusations of misusing income

Besides the corruption scandal, FIFA has also faced accusations of misusing what income they do have. FIFA’s legal bills rose from $20m in 2015 to $50m in 2016. There is also the World Football Museum in Zurich, run by FIFA which apparently cost $190m to build but has failed to attract many visitors.

FIFA lost $369m in 2016, which equates to triple the losses of the year before, and the body forecasts a loss of $489m in 2017. Reserves, which have been above $1bn since 2008, are predicted to fall to $605m next year.

With such a poor show for its financial books, FIFA should have some hoops to jump through to show that the money from sponsors will not be wasted.

A Florida teenager was honored on Tuesday for helping to save the life of a Fort Lauderdale police officer who was processing his arrest for a parole violation.

Video released by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department shows Officer Franklin Foulks processing Jamal Rutledge after he was arrested for criminal mischief and burglary probation violations, according to WTVJ.

When Foulks suddenly collapsed, Rutledge “immediately began to kick the security fence and yell to alert officers in the area,” a statement from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said.

Sgt. Todd Bunin responded by contacting police dispatch. Officers Robert Norvis and Raymond Ketchmark quickly arrived to assist Bunin. The officers administered CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator device to attempt to restore Foulks’ heart rhythm.

“Broward Health Medical Staff noted that Rutledge’s actions and the quick response of these officers were largely responsible for Officer Foulks surviving this medical episode,” the statement noted.

Rutledge and the officers were expected to also be honored at the next Fort Lauderdale Commission Meeting on January 21st.

6 teenage boys, aged between 14 and 16, have been arrested and accused of stealing a Porsche and $200,000 during a Florida burglary – before blowing the cash on gold jewelry and teeth, and high end cars for themselves and their mothers.

The teens; Rural Scott, 15, Jeremiah Laplace, 15, Michael Bush, 14, Joshua Sargeant, 14, Shomari Smith, 14, and Walter Walker, 16, all from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, were charged with burglary and grand theft this week.

According to a St. Lucie County Sheriff’s report said the group, who each have a long rap sheet despite their young ages, were all in custody in other jurisdictions in connection with other crimes when they were arrested Monday following a two-month investigation.

The investigation began after Brett Browning, of North Hutchinson Island, Florida, reported a break-in at his home on April 27.

He told police he returned home to find his garage door open and his 2014 Porsche Cayman – worth $50,000 to $60,000 – was missing.

Each has a long arrest record, including Laplace who has been arrested 14 times starting since he turned 14, for charges including grand theft, robbery by sudden snatching, grand theft auto, burglary, grand theft of a firearm and criminal mischief.

Two of the teens are being held without bond, while the other four have bonds ranging from $210,000 to $250,000.

The Palm Beach Post reports that the teens have not been charged as adults.

Simon Smith had just finished paying in a wage cheque at his bank when he was hit by the No. 17 bus in Reading at around 9am on Wednesday.

CCTV footage of the incident, which has since gone viral, showed Simon hitting his head on the windscreen before being thrown 45ft across the pavement.



But instead of waiting for help, Simon, a HGV driver, picked himself up and walked into the Purple Turtle pub, where he used to work.

He has since spoken out, telling The Sun that despite everyone thinking he’d gone for a pint, he was actually looking for a place of refuge.

Simon said: ‘I heard some banging behind me and I was hit from behind. I didn’t tense because I didn’t know it was coming.



‘After it, I just wanted to get somewhere safe. It’s quite funny everybody think I have gone for a pint. I was actually looking for a place of refuge when I went into the doorway of the pub.’



He added that police and paramedics didn’t believe that he’d been hit by the bus, insisting instead that it must have been debris.

It was only until they saw the CCTV at the pub that they came back and allegedly said: ‘I’m really sorry you were right’.

Simon added that he feels ‘very lucky’ to be alive and is glad that his wife and five-year-old daughter were not with him at the time.

The incident happened around 9am on Saturday morning

Fortunately, he managed to escape with just a few cuts and bruises following the shocking collision.

Daniel Fraifeld, 50, who co-owns the Purple Turtle bar, said: ‘I think he [Simon] pretty much got up, brushed himself down and then an ambulance came and took him to be checked.

‘He got looked over and didn’t have any lasting injuries – but he’s covered in scrapes and bruises. He then got released from the hospital and I think he just went for a pint to relax.’

So SNOOP wasn't the one who pulled the trigger, but his bodyguard was. He was still arrested in the death of a rival gang member and represented by Johnnie Cochran.

Football player Donte Stallworth killed a man during a drunk driving incident. He pled guilty and served 30 days in jail.
14. J.R. Smith

Basketball player J.R. Smith swerved around a car at a stop sign and crashed his car, killing his passenger. He served 24 days of a 90 day sentence.

15. Sid Vicious

Sid Vicious allegedly stabbed his girlfriend Nancy Spurgeon to death while they were high. He died of a heroin overdose several months later.
16. Suge Knight

Suge Knight has been charged with murder. The charge came down in February 2015 due to a hit and run incident in California.

Bizarre reports have surfaced that Zimbabwean prostitutes are surreptitiously collecting sperm from their clients after sex.
According to myzimbabwe.co.zw, the sperm is being exported to South Africa where there is reportedly high demand by sangomas who are said to be using it in their traditional rituals.

The 250ml bottles of sperm reportedly sell for between US$25 and US$30.

According to one man, talk of the sperm reapers sent shivers down the spines of men who disposed of condoms after s*x with prostitutes.

My Zimbabwe reports in one case a man was drugged by a hooker before being forced into repeated s*x for the purpose of taking his sperm.

My Zimbabwe quoted Mr Last Zulu as saying the sperm harvesting craze had also spread to married women who were forcing their husbands to use protection during s*x so that they could collect their sperm and sell it.

We all have potatoes in our kitchen that save us the bet when we do not know what to cook. The potato is consumed all over the world and it is not without reason because it is generally a vegetable that everyone appreciates.

A simple potato decimated an entire family

It is the family Chelysheva from a town near the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan who died as a result of an inhalation of toxic potato gases.

Only the youngest of 8 years has managed to survive this terrible misfortune. Maria is the one who lost her mother, her dad but also her grandmother and grandmother.
According to the police investigation, it was the father of the family who was the first to touch the toxic gas of the potatoes first descending into the cellar.

He had fainted and that was what alerted his wife who went to the cellar and suffered the same fate.

In turn, the 18-year-old son and soon after the grandmother broke into the cellar and died after fainting.

The 8-year-old girl did not understand what was happening and she decided to go down to the cellar in turn. She found her whole family on the ground but it was thanks to her grandmother that she survived because the latter had left the door open which had allowed the toxic gases of the potatoes to be able to escape from the room.

According to the police investigation, the potatoes in the cellar had rotted causing toxic gas build-up when inhaled.
How is this possible?

This can lead to serious disorders such as cramps, headaches, diarrhea, or death as the Chelyssheva family.

A new island has formed in the Bermuda Triangle, but people are being told to stay away.

Nicknamed Shelly Island by locals because of the large number of shells on it, the mile-long sand bank appeared over the last couple of months.

The island is off Cape Point in North Carolina and is becoming something of an attraction.

Janice Regan visited Cape Hatteras point with her grandson Caleb for Memorial Day.

She told PilotOnline: ‘Yeah, isn’t it crazy? It was just a little bump in April.

However people are being told to stay away because of strong currents in the gap separating the sandbank from the mainland.

The distance between the two is just 50 yards, but the riptides are said to be incredibly strong.

And there are sharks.

Bill Smith, president of the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association, said: ‘We’re worried about shark bites, but we’re more worried about drownings.’

But some have made it across, including Travis Phillips who said that he loves the island ‘thats’ where all the shells are’.

His friend Madalyn Eads waited for him on the safety of the mainland and watched him to make sure he could get across safely.

The future of the island is not clear. The sandbank could continue to grow and form part of Cape Point, or it could vanish as quickly as it appeared.

The CNN news channel, referring to sources it has not revealed, has announced that the US government has ordered its air and sea bases in the Middle East to be ready for a A possible attack on the Shayrat air base in the suburbs of Homs in Syria.

CNN said it received reports of the US inspection of Shayrat air base shortly after the White House claimed Syria intended to carry out a chemical attack. A pretext that can justify the prolonged presence of the American troops on the Syrian territory.

The WikiLeaks organization published a diplomatic cable describing an exchange in 2003 between Mohammed ben Zayed bin Sultan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi (the wealthiest kingdom of the United Arab Emirates) and the American diplomat Richard Haass.

In this conversation, Mohammed ben Zayed bin Sultan – who is also the Minister of Defense of Abu Dhabi – “laughingly recalls” a meeting between his father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan (the leader of the United Arab Emirates until 2004 ) And the Emir of Qatar Hamad Al-Thani shortly after the American invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

“Hamad [Al-Thani] complained about a report he received detailing how Mohammed ben Zayed had asked US General Tommy Franks to bomb Al Jazeera. Wayde van Niekerk is out of this world. Just as Usain Bolt’s career is winding down, Van Niekerk looks set to take over the mantle as the poster boy for sprinting.



On Wednesday night in Ostrava, he did it again. He broke another World Record, this time, in the 300m.

The event is not run very often, so it’s no surprise that the record had been standing for 17 years. Set in 2000 by American Michael Johnson in Pretoria.

“I’m so pleased and grateful for this big achievement,” said Van Niekerk, whose first professional appearance on the IAAF circuit was over 400m at Ostrava.

“Thanks to all the people of Ostrava for this wonderful meeting. I’m honoured to be a small part of history.

“I have to rest a little but after that I hope I can continue to make babysteps to be better day by day.”

Van Niekerk continues to reach dizzy heights in athletics and has these personal bests in other sprint events:

100m – 9.94
200m -19.84
400m – 43.03

What a legend.

AFP reported that Van Niekerk will aim to double up in the August 4-13 World Athletics Championships, in the 200 and 400m, meaning a packed racing programme of six back-to-back days of competition.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done,” he insisted.

“I have faith in my coach, I just go out and try to execute to the best of my ability.

“This world record is a blessing. It’s a massive confidence booster,” he acknowledged, dubbing it an “honour” to twice better Johnson.
