Police arrest suspected ATM fraudstars in Jigawa by ChaleneLucy(f) : 8:48 pm On Sep 09, 2022

Police in Jigawa State have burst a suspected syndicate of ATM fraudsters that are terrorizing Dutse metropolis.

Spokesman of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam disclosed this in a press statement issued to DAILY POST.

He said this came after the police received report from one Usman Nasir of Albasu Local Government of Kano State that one Nuhu Gambo duped him of his ATM card.

He said the suspect deceitfully collected the victim’s ATM card with the pretense of teaching him how to withdraw the sum of twenty thousand naira (N20,000.00k) from his bank account.

The suspect then swapped the ATM card with another card and took to his heels.

Shiisu said on receiving the report, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspect.

He said the suspect confessed to having committed the offense with his accomplices, one Alhassan and Baban Baba, A.K.A August, now at-large.

The police spokesman said he was found with twenty (20) pieces of ATM cards belonging to different banks.

He said the case was under investigation.

2023: Gumi, Tukur Mamu fly private jet, campaigning for Atiku – Fani-Kayode by ChaleneLucy(f) : 8:54 pm On Sep 09, 2022

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has accused the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar of having ties with the detained terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu and his principal, Ahmad Gumi.

DAILY POST recalls that Tukur Mamu, who is said to be a spokesman of the controversial Islamic cleric, Gumi was arrested in Egypt on Tuesday and repatriated on Wednesday.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS, who raided his home on Thursday and recovered several items.

However, in a statement he personally signed on Friday, Fani-Kayode, a lawyer, alleged that both “Mamu and Gumi are associates of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Waziri Adamawa and the presidential candidate of the opposition PDP”.

According to him, Atiku Abubakar, Ahmad Gumi and Tukur Mamu “are close NOT merely because they took a picture but because they have TRAVELLED together all over the country in private jets on several occasions.

The statement reads in part, “I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they supported him and campaigned for him in the 2019 presidential election and they are supporting him and lobbying and campaigning for him again for the 2023 presidential election,.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are hardline and strong supporters and backers of the PDP, they have spent plenty of time with him over the last few years and they are in touch with him on a regular basis.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they are amongst those that insisted that he should run for the Presidency once again in 2023, clinch the presidential ticket of the PDP and keep power in the North even though the party had zoned the position to the South and even though it has a Northern National Chairman.

“I say they are close to Atiku Abubakar because they have a pathological hatred for and are in stiff opposition to President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC and the Federal Government and they are committed to ensuring that they are removed from power.

“There can be no doubt that their relationship is deep and profound and this requires a thorough examination and clinical investigation by the security and intelligence agencies”.

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, on Friday returned to his office after perfecting his bail conditions.

DAILY POST recalls that Oluomo, who was arrested last week by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was on Tuesday arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State for allegedly diverting N2.475 billion of state funds.

He was granted bail in the sum of N300 million with two sureties in like sum.

The Speaker, on Friday, appeared at the assembly complex in Okemosan, Abeokuta, having been away from work for days.

He was welcomed by members of staff, who said they were happy to see him again in his office.

Speaking on behalf of the Assembly staff, the Chairman of the State chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, Ayotunde Ojediran, said the workers were happy to receive back to the office, the Speaker as well as the Assembly Clerk, Adedeji Adeyemo and the Accountant, Samuel Oladayo, who were also arraigned for the same charges.

He appreciated the members of staff for remaining resolute and keeping the House running while the trio were away.

2023: PDP receives warning over emulating APC’s footsteps by ChaleneLucy(f) : 3:22 am On Sep 10, 2022

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the South East Revival Group (SERG) on Friday strongly cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “not to follow the footsteps of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to make the party northern affairs just like the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.”

In a statement signed by its President and National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu, SERG said that “since the presidential primary, where South East was deliberately denied the opportunity to produce its presidential candidate, the PDP is carrying on with the preparation for 2023 electioneering campaign as if the South, especially South Eastern Nigeria, does not matter.”

It said, “After denying the Igbos well deserved presidential ticket as well as the position of the running mate to its presidential candidate, it will not be out of place for the South East in particular to produce the national chairman of the PDP.

“We hereby vehemently reject the position of the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) given to the South East.

“For us, therefore, denying Igbos all the decision-making positions in the PDP at this critical time is the most insensitive action of the party if it jettisons the long loyalty of the people of South East to the party since 1999.

“The SERG is fully aligned with the position of the PDP leaders in the South that it is PDP national chairmanship position for South. Otherwise, Igbos will unanimously look elsewhere, knowing that the PDP has opted to tow the path of nepotism and hatred charted against the South East by the ruling APC.

“We strongly warn the PDP not to emulate the APC’s neglect of the Igbos in key party appointments ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“And trivialising the agitation by Southern Nigeria, especially the South East, for justice in sharing party positions in the PDP will certainly attract commensurate response from the people of Southern Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.

“For us, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and other southern leaders of the PDP are right in insisting that the national chairmanship of the party must return to the South ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

“The situation is even more insulting for Southern Nigeria, from the conversations so far, as it has become very obvious that both the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, are not ready to honour their own words to the effect that if the North produces the Presidential candidate of the party, the PDP chairmanship position will go to the South.”

“The question now is: if before the general election, these PDP leaders are not ready to honour their own words, how can they be trusted to do the right thing after the PDP has won the presidential election?” the SERG queried.

It was learnt that the truck carrying bags of cement, lost control and rammed into a building.

2023: Atiku deceptive, will betray PDP govs on one term agreement – Ohanaeze by ChaleneLucy(f) : 3:44 am On Sep 10, 2022

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has cautioned Nigerians against the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

Ohanaeze warned that Atiku would betray PDP governors over his promise of ruling Nigeria for a single term.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, cautioned that Atiku’s presidency would be full of deception and falsehood.

In a statement he signed, Isiguzoro described Atiku as an unpredictable individual who never keeps to an agreement.

According to Isiguzoro: “Ndigbo and Nigerians understand the implications of the transition of power from President Buhari to another Northerner in 2023, particularly to Atiku Abubakar, who is seen as a precarious and unpredictable individual, who never keeps to an agreement.

“This is the height of hypocrisy and nepotism for the successor of President Buhari to be another Northerner, therefore making it easier for the first time for the North to hold Power for uninterrupted 16 years against the South after many wasteful years of the North in military regimes.

Ohaneze alleged that ”Atiku’s presidency will be full of deception and falsehood as he forbade to endorse an agreement with Southern PDP Governors for a single term pact, with the recent refusal of the Northern Caucus of PDP to relinquish the National Chairman of the Party while holding the Presidential candidate and the recent resignation of BoT Chairman Walid, a political maneuver and prank to spite Ndigbo.”

“Ndigbo will consider the adoption of a Southerner for 2023 as the person who will receive Igbo votes.

2023 presidency: I wish either Tinubu, Obi wins – Umahi by ChaleneLucy(f) : 3:46 am On Sep 10, 2022

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi has reacted to the presidential bid of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, saying his aspiration is making the South East geo-political zone relevant.

Umahi, who was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to intimate him of the completion of a new Governors’ Lodge in Asokoro, did not openly support the Labour Party candidate, but noted that Obi’s presidential aspiration was good for the region.

Reacting to questions thrown at him on the chances of the APC clinching the Presidency in 2023 going by wide support for the Peter Obi movement, he said only God can actually determine who will eventually win the poll, but wished that his party, the APC would emerge victorious.

Recall that Umahi, a frontline member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crossed over to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) a development that elicited strong reactions within the polity.

Commenting on the crisis still dotting the APC ahead of the general elections, Umahi said such issues will be addressed amicably and the party would come out stronger.

His words, “Well, I think that, you know, we don’t have issues in the APC like the kind of issues that we have in other parties. They say in a big house, you know, there are vessels onto honour and there are vessels onto dishonour. Literally, meaning that there must be some issues in a big house like the APC. But the structure and the spread of APC is such that victory is assured.

“I can assure you that some of the disagreements in some States are going to be resolved. Mechanism has been put in place by Mr. President, the candidate of the party, his vice and then the national chairman and leadership of the party, to sort out those differences. And I think we are well prepared for victory in 2023”.

Responding to questions on whether the South-East is ready for the presidency, relying on what played out in the APC primaries, he said, “What happened during the primaries of PDP and APC, were a kind of miscalculation by people but to say whether they’re ready for the presidency of the country anytime, I think that the movement of Peter Obi is an eye opener.

“That’s why I said, I love what he’s doing. I’m encouraged by what he’s doing. Because if he’s not doing what he’s doing, it means that South East would have been forgotten. So, why my party takes the victory, he would have prepared a very good ground, for the South East Presidency, so that nobody is going to write us off.

“And you can see the level of his acceptability, which does not translate to victory over APC. I’m sure of that, but it’s a good movement. And it reassures the South East people and the entire country that we are accepted, you know, that we will one day become the President of this country. It is very important”.

Asked if the Peter Obi phenomenon contributed to reduced killings in the South East, he said, “You cannot technically assign the killings because of Igbo presidency, you can see that security generally is improving in the country. And it has nothing to do with the movement of Peter Obi.

“Peter Obi movement is a movement that is anchored on equity, justice and fairness. It may not translate to outright win because I must defend my party, I must wish my party well and I’m having the ticket of my party. So but whether what he is doing has meaning in there, not only South East, it does have meaning. So we must never attribute the killings in South East to this kind of movement.

“Peter Obi’s movement and all the movement are authored on God’s will, is only God who knows who will win, but there must be a wish. As a party man, I would wish that our party wins. And if God says no, the next person I wish that should win is Peter Obi. Because I believe strongly and I will say it anywhere that after the north has taken eight years, there is no moral justification for the north to be seeking to take another eight years, it should go to the south.

“So I’m not wishing Peter Obi away. God has the final say and he has the power and gives to whom ever He wishes”

Also asked if Obi has any chance of winning, he responded saying, everybody has chances of winning and chances of losing but you must always have a wish.

“Yes. It’s going to be a different ball game altogether. Because when campaign starts, yes, the interest of our people in terms of presidency is there, you can’t wish it away. But everyone in south east holding the ticket of their party is going to be struggling and he’s going to be fighting. You will not tell the guy that has the ticket of House of Assembly to look at the bigger picture of Igbo presidency. He may not see it but that is not to say that you know Peter Obi is not going to get substantial votes in South East, it is there”.

Man rapes daughter in Ogun, says ‘I don’t know what came over me’ by ChaleneLucy(f) : 4:12 am On Sep 12, 2022

A 46-year-old man, Olusegun Oluwole, has reportedly raped his daughter in Ogun, saying he did not know what came over him while committing the incestuous act.

The police arrested Oluwole following a complaint the victim lodged at the Ibara Police Station in Abeokuta.

The victim had visited the police station in the company of some operatives of the So-Safe Corps to report the incident.

Ogun police spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Sunday that the victim had informed the police that while she was sleeping in their one-room apartment in the Amolaso area of Abeokuta around 11:30 pm, “her father, having observed that others are fast asleep, suddenly grabbed her and forcefully had s*x with her with a threat to kill her if she refused to allow him.”

Anambra APC youth leader petitions Nat’l Chairman, alleges unlawful removal by ChaleneLucy(f) : 4:18 am On Sep 12, 2022

Innocent Nwata, the youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra, has petitioned the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, over his alleged unlawful removal.

Nwanta, who addressed journalists on Sunday, accused Basil Ejidike, chairman of the party in the state, of victimisation.

He claimed he had been unlawfully removed by the chairman, even though both of them were elected during the same congress.

He alleged that his removal may not be unconnected to the recent defection of Senator Stella Oduah back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while he stayed back.

His petition read: “It is on record that APC Anambra State Chapter on 30th January 2022 held her state congress, where members of the current State Executive Committee, including the State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, were elected.

“I, Hon Innocent Nwanta, was elected the State APC Youth Leader, and were subsequently inaugurated at the Party Secretariat, Amenyi Awka. The summary of the result sheet of the state congress is hereby attached for your kind perusal sir.”

He further told journalists that it was surprising, and embarrassing to him that the chairman, who also benefited from the same congress, would turn around and remove him for no reason.

“He stopped inviting me to State Executive meetings and sundry party functions and has unjustly removed and replaced me with one of his errand boys, one Mr. Jideofor Ejimofor.

“For record purposes, your Excellency, I am a bonafide APC member (attached herewith is my party membership card), with number An/Ogb/16/57524. I am an indigene of Ogbaru and a voter in Iyiowa/Odekpe/Ohita ward.”

Nwanta begged Adamu to use his office to correct the injustice and to prevail on the state chairman of the party to reinstate him.

He added that the fear that he may be a blackleg in the party does not arise as he refused to join Senator Oduah to leave the party when she left; instead opted to remain in APC and has worked tirelessly for the success of the party.

Several attempts by DAILY POST to get a reaction from Mr Ejidike were not successful as calls to his mobile phone were not answered.

ASUU strike: No decision yet on UTAS – Adamu Adamu by ChaleneLucy(f) : 8:11 pm On Sep 12, 2022

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, says a payment platform, one of the bones of contention surrounding the protracted industrial strike embarked by the members of the Academic Staff Union Universities, ASUU, is yet to be approved.

This was disclosed by Adamu, yesterday, while fielding questions on Channels TV.

Recall that ASUU had demanded that its members be exited from IPPIS payment platform to the University Transparency Accountability Solution, UTAS, provided by the union.

Adamu said the decision on whether or not to approve the payment platform is left with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The President is actually waiting for the report of the technical committee on the three payment platforms. I have seen one of the reports but I have not seen the final one. From what I have seen, the U3PS, is probably the best, followed by UTAS and IPPIS,” he said.

According to him, the increment in salaries of university lecturers and other tertiary institutions like Polytechnics and Colleges of Education would not begin immediately, saying it will commence in January next year.

Speaking on the ‘no work no pay policy’, Adamu said that the federal government is not ready to change its decision.

“I don’t think the government would rescind. It is not only payment of salary that should motivate them to go back. There are many things that can motivate them to go back to classroom,” he said.

Rumour of Bode George slapping PDP chair, false, misleading – Northern youths by ChaleneLucy(f) : 6:16 am On Sep 13, 2022

The leadership of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), has described the allegation of Chief Bode George slapping the Adamawa State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an attempt to cause unnecessary confusion in the party.

The group lamented that the allegation is also meant to question the integrity of Bode George as an elder statesman that has and still contributing positively to the development of the party and Nigeria as a whole.

Isah Abubakar, the National President of the group in a statement said, “The leadership of Northern Youth Council of Nigeria is shocked with the allegation in disbelief of the personality of Chief Bode George that he slapped the Adamawa state Chairman of PDP, Barrister Abubakar Tahir Shehu. Chief Bode George is an elder statesman and respected personality who without any doubt will not involve himself in any kind of malicious activity that will dent his personality and that of his huge followers across the country.

“The forum, therefore, wishes to urge the general public to disregard the false information and sees it as another way of bringing the integrity of the elder statesman to disrepute. Chief Bode George as is known to all Nigerians is a man of honour whose contribution to the development of the country is second to known.”

The youths opined that a thorough analysis of the elder statesman shows that Chief Bode George has stood to defend the integrity of Nigeria and has throughout his life been at the forefront of ensuring that the right thing is done and has never hide himself to saying the truth of any issue that concern the wellbeing, peace, unity and development of the country.

“As one of the founding members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George is after seeing the PDP is victorious in 2023 General Election and anything short of that I am sure he will never be part of it, Chief Bode George who is funding many youth organizations in support of the PDP will remain resolute to seeing his party win the election and ensuring that the main opposition party, PDP emerged victorious from the presidency to all levels of elective positions in the country,” the statement explained.

The youths called on the general public to note that Chief Bode George’s priority is to see Atiku Abubakar win the general election and by extension ensure the victory of the party in all the states of the Federation so that the party will restore Nigeria back to its old glory.

2023: Group warns Atiku to beware of traitors by ChaleneLucy(f) : 6:19 am On Sep 13, 2022

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group operating under the aegis of North East Solidarity Network on Monday warned the presidential flagbearer in the 2023 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to be wary of traitors

In a statement on Monday which was issued by the group’s President Abubakar Abubakar and made available to DAILY POST in Abuja, he pointed out that certain elements who disguise as supporters of the party may not be genuine, hence, Atiku should tread with caution to avoid last minute calamity.

The group advised the standard flagbearer to properly check those who contested the presidential election with him and be wary of antics of some of them.

The group in the statement recalled that the governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Bala Mohammed contested the PDP Primary election with Atiku Abubakar in May and scored 20 votes.

According to the statement, Bala Mohammed’s commitment to the Atiku presidency should be properly interrogated.

DAILY POST, however, recalled that after Bala Mohammed lost the presidential primary election, he re-contested for the governorship ticket and won.

The group expressed concern that the party was not getting the needed loyalty from some of those who contested for presidential ticket and lost to Atiku, a development they asserted should be watched out as the party approaches the 2023 general election.

Describing the Bauchi State Governor as a hypocrite, Abubakar said Mohammed is two-faced – on the sides of Atiku and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

“As well-meaning stakeholders interested in the progress of our beloved party and nation, we wish to bring the attention of Alhaji Atiku to some conspirators working against his ambition,” he said.

“No doubt, our party is undergoing a phase – a man-made crisis born out of utter jealousy, pride and selfish interest. We have followed the scheme of things and noticed that some so-called leaders don’t mean well for the party.
