Re: Woman shoots boyfriend who refused to argue with he by Abraham662(m) : 8:21 am On Jul 21, 2020

atoluwash:

Police are searching for a Louisiana woman who left her boyfriend in a critical condition after she allegedly shot him for refusing to argue with her.

The shooting unfolded early Saturday morning July 18, in the Caddo Heights neighborhood of Shreveport at around 7.30am in the 1400 block of Grigsby Street.

A warrant has now been issued for Jenalisha Lawrence, 29, who has been charged with attempted second-degree murder in the shooting that left her boyfriend in a critical situation.

Authorities at Shreveport Police Department said they were called to the home over report of a shooting and when they arrived they found a 34-year-old man on the sidewalk suffering a gunshot wound to the body.

He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with life-threatening injuries and he is still listed as in critical condition, according to KXAN.

Witnesses told investigators that Lawrence shot the victim following an interaction in which the man refused to argue with her.

Police say that Lawrence was the man's 'estranged' girlfriend.

She fled the scene in a green Honda Accord with a primer on the left passenger’s side front door.

Police are now searching for her and say she has two addresses in Shreveport but investigators believe she likely fled to the Dallas, Texas area where she is from. Her bond is set at $150,000.

Jegede wins Ondo PDP ticket, battles Akeredolu in Oct poll by Abraham662(m) : 6:44 pm On Jul 23, 2020

A former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, has been elected the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the October 10 governorship election in the state.

Jegede defeated other contestants having polled 888 votes, while the deputy governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, polled 657 votes; and the PDP National Vice Chairman, Dr Eddy Olafeso, came third with 175 votes.

Also, Dr Bode Ayorinde scored 95 votes, Mr Banji Okunomo polled 90, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere got 33, Sola Ebiseni scored 29 and Godday Erewa polled 13 votes.

The election was keenly contested among the eight aspirants, and no fewer than 2,122, delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state participated in the election.

The accreditation of the delegates commenced around 10am while the delegates started to cast their votes around 2pm at the main, auditorium of the International Event Centre, Akure, the Ondo State capital

The exercise was conducted in line with COVID-19 protocols as any delegate or stakeholder without tag or face mask on was not allowed into the arena.

There was heavy presence of armed security men from the state police command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services and the Federal Road Safety Corps at the venue.

The officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present to monitor the process.

Earlier, supporters of some of the aspirants sang songs outside the venue to show support for their favourite aspirants.

However, few hours before the commencement of the primary, two members of the party were mobbed outside the venue of the exercise for allegedly being in possession of some thumb-printed ballot papers.

He said, “We are building a nation and I promise to conduct a free and fair primary. I want to assure you that a credible candidate will emerge through this process.

However, after the voting ended at 7.30pm, the process was halted for almost two hours following an argument among the aspirants and the members of the primary election committee over certain list of delegates.

But the matter was resolved and 11 former members of the state House of Assembly were allowed to cast their votes.

FULL LIST: Meet football’s most valuable first 11 worth €1.25bn by Abraham662(m) : 11:39 am On Jun 29, 2023

Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland has made the list of the latest world’s most valuable starting eleven (3-5-2).

According to Transfermarkt, Haaland made the list alongside Kylian Mbappe, Bukayo Saka, and Phil Foden, among others.

The combined market value of the starting eleven amounts to a total of €1.25 billion.

Erling Haaland has enjoyed a near-perfect debut season as a Manchester City player in the Premier League. The towering striker can already tick off three trophies; the Premier League, the FA Cup and, of course, the UEFA Champions League. He ended the 2022-23 campaign with 52 goals in all competitions, and may soon receive one more individual award.

The Norway international is in the running for the Ballon d’Or but will face some stern competition to win the respected gong. However, Haaland has done his case no harm at all, and it seems an inevitability that he will win the accolade one day, if not this year.

On his part, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe is tipped to win multiple Ballon d’Or awards in the future. This could very well have been his year. After all, he picked up the Golden Boot at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and even scored a wonderful hat-trick in the final against Argentina, albeit in a losing affair.

Mbappe was once again Paris Saint-Germain’s main man as they won the Ligue 1 title. However, an early exit from the Champions League would have hampered his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or. Mbappe scored 41 goals and provided 10 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for PSG in the 2022-23 season.

23-year-old Phil Foden made 48 appearances across competitions, of which 29 were as starters in the playing XI. Foden has, to his credit, scored 15 goals and eight assists this past season.

Foden, though, was not as regular in the playing XI as one would have anticipated him to be. After Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 4-1 in February, Pep Guardiola emphasised Foden’s importance in the team, saying, “He scored a goal, he was good, he is important. We need Phil, his work ethic. He scored a goal and assisted. He’s so important, step by step, he will be back.”

Foden, however, didn’t start in either of the two matches for England in the recent international break. He was used as a substitute in both games. Hence, it’s fair to say that the 23-year-old is not going through the best moment of his career at the moment.

However, given Phil Foden’s immense talent and his well-known work ethic, it might not be too long before the player finds himself back in the mix for both club and country.

Josko Gvardiol seems to be one of the most sought-after in the football market. Manchester City is rumoured to be stepping up efforts to sign the youngster after he indicated to RB Leipzig he was ready to leave.

Leipzig wants around £86 million for the 21-year-old. Previous club Dinamo Zagreb are understood to have a sell-on clause of around 20 per cent.

Guardiola is seeking to replace Aymeric Laporte with Gvardiol, who is expected to leave. Reports from Foot Mercato had earlier claimed the club were ready to break the bank in order to bring the 21-year-old to Manchester.

See the full list below:

Forwards: Erling Haaland (Manchester City, €180m), Kylian Mbappe (PSG, €180m).

Midfielders: Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid, €150m), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal, €120m), Jude Bellingham (Dortmund/Real Madrid, €120m), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich, €110m) and Phil Foden (Manchester City, €110m).

Defenders: Matthijs De Ligt (Bayern Munich, €75m), Ruben Dias (Manchester City, €80m) and Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig, €75m).

Goalkeeper: Diogo Costa (Porto, €45m).

NDPB To Sanction More Banks, Telcos, Schools Over Data Privacy Breach by Abraham662(m) : 7:59 pm On Jun 29, 2023

Following the recent sanction of two banks for data privacy breach, the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) is currently investigating five other institutions in the finance and education sectors in Ogun State for various data privacy breaches.

The Chief Executive Officers and Vice Chancellor of the affected institutions risk paying two per cent of their gross earnings in the previous year as fine or risk jail term or both, depending on the effect and consequences of the data breaches.

The National Commissioner/CEO of NDPB, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, who confirmed the sanction imposed on two Nigerian banks, told THISDAY in a telephone conversation yesterday that the banks were sanctioned after proper investigation on data privacy and protection was carried on them.

The banks are currently going through a six-month remediation course organised for their Data Controlling Officers (DCOs) and Data Processing Officers (DCOs), he said.

The implementation of the NDPB law commenced recently, after President Bola Tinubu signed it into law.

“NDPB has five institutions in its investigation list and their CEOs will risk paying heavy fine or go to jail after the breaches have been established.

“The minimum fine for data breach is N50 million and the maximum fine is two per cent of their gross earnings in the previous year.

“The two banks that have been sanctioned are currently going through six months remediation course. There are lots of data breaches going on in hospitals, hotels, aviation sector, transportation sector, and schools, which we need to address as government agency,” Olatunji said.

According to him, poor handling of sensitive data had caused lots of harm to people, adding that the NDPB was working with government agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related Offences Commission (ICPC), among others, to investigate over 110 data controllers and data processors for various degrees of data privacy and protection breaches.

He said lack of due diligence on the part of data controllers in engaging with data processors or vendors that have access to personal data of customers, has led to abuses and violation of people’s rights.

Olatunji said the NDPB law would ensure a sustainable digital economy and also strengthen the Nigerian economy, adding that the NDPB is putting plans in place to create 500,000 jobs in order to close the capacity gap in the sub-sector and help achieve President Tinubu’s goal of creating one million jobs.

HEALTH ISSUES: Ondo monarchs pray for Akeredolu's quick recovery by Abraham662(m) : 8:22 pm On Jun 29, 2023

Ondo State Council of Obas yesterday gathered to pray for the quick recovery of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

The first prayer session of the Christians was led by the Olujigba of Ijigba, Oba Luyi Rotimi.

Oba Rotimi asked God to grant the governor a quick recovery so that he can continue the good work he is doing. The royal father said God has proven he could heal the sick irrespective of the cause and kind of illness.

Prayer in the African traditional way was offered by Abodi of Ikale, Oba G.B Faduyile. He said Governor Akeredolu was a pride to the state and the country at large.

Deji Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, described Governor Akeredolu as ‘a fearless leader’ who had done so much for the state in terms of security and infrastructure.

Oba Aladetoyinbo said what they could do, at critical times like this, is to pray for him to recover urgently. He also cautioned against ‘unnecessary uproars’ by persons who want to use the governor’s absence to settle political issues.

He warned political actors not to plunge the state into any unnecessary and avoidable upheaval. “Rather than cause unnecessary tension, the politicians should come together and pray for the governor and the state to seek the good of the land,” he added.
