“I Am Relocating To Israel” – Prophet TB Joshua by jadoo(m) : 10:08 pm On May 02, 2017

BREAKING: I’m leaving Nigeria, and relocating to another country – TB Joshua
source:
In a bombshell announcement that shocked congregants and viewers of Emmanuel TV alike, Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua declared his intentions to leave Nigeria and relocate his ministry to the nation of Israel.

Speaking to a rapt multi-national audience at his church service on Sunday 30th April 2017, Joshua disclosed that he had just returned from the ‘Holy Land’ after holding meetings with three prominent Israeli mayors of Jerusalem, Tiberias and the Jordan Valley.

According to the cleric, they offered both land and facilities in an area around the biblical site of the Sea of Galilee for the Nigerian Pastor to organise meetings for international pilgrims.

“This is where my Father in Heaven came from – it’s non-negotiable,” Joshua explained, adding it was not a decision he undertook lightly.

“It’s the best place for you to meet Prophet T.B. Joshua. After your healing, blessing and deliverance, you can move around all the spiritual monuments which will establish your faith,” he further clarified.

Joshua said his decision to leave was not connected to the “persecution” he endured during his ministry.

However, he hoped the move would help people to “appreciate” what his ministry had been contributing to both the local economy and Nigeria’s international image.

“This is the most persecuted ministry in the world. Who are the people persecuting the ministry? My people, Africa,” Joshua bluntly stated, adding that this ‘treatment’ had led him into a life of virtual isolation.

“That is why I choose to live a lonely life. If you want to see me, come to this church. I don’t go out. It has not been easy – because I don’t know who is a friend or who is an enemy. If you learn T.B. Joshua is not around, I am in a revival. I live in the church here. I don’t have a house outside.”

“Anytime you pray, remember Africa in prayer,” the cleric solemnly continued to an audience which included over 3,000 foreign nationals who flew into Nigeria to attend the church service.

“Many heroes and great people have been chased out of Africa. There are many geniuses in the Western world who are originally from Africa.”

The cleric pointed to the example of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua who was allegedly turned down by Nigerian sporting authorities when he wanted to represent the country.

“What happened to me from the beginning of my ministry is enough to chase me out of this country – but I am still in your midst. Upon the persecution and hatred – I decided to follow the path of love. You show hatred; I show love. When I go for a revival, you will see the stadium full but I am not carried away by that. I leave where I’m celebrated to live where I’m persecuted.”

The cleric then advised congregants: “Where you are not celebrated is the best place to stay, to get strength. When you are in the midst of a battle, you are building yourself. That is why I decided to stay where I am not celebrated here in Nigeria. When the grace of God is amid challenges, it gets stronger.”

According to the cleric, the invitation to Israel came due to the growing popularity of Joshua’s television channel Emmanuel TV, which is especially known on YouTube.

“Your life can preach a better sermon than your mouth,” he exhorted the congregation, stating that the Israeli officials had observed his ministry from afar before inviting him.

No timeframe for the move was specified in the service and it was not clear whether activities in The SCOAN’s Ikotun-Egbe base would cease entirely.

Joshua concluded by counselling people: “Don’t destroy your relationships beyond repair because the person who fights you today can be your saviour tomorrow.”

The shock announcement will come as a blow to Nigeria’s religious tourism industry.

Statistics from the Nigerian Immigration Services revealed that six out of every ten travelers to Nigeria go to The SCOAN, with countless local businesses and hotels in the area relying on the church activities for their sustenance.

Buhari’s sickness taking its toll on Nigeria’s health – Akande by jadoo(m) : 10:30 pm On May 02, 2017

Bisi Akande

Femi Makinde, Osogbo

The former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, has appealed to Nigerians to start praying for the restoration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health in order to avert a looming crisis which the development could throw the nation into
Akande, who made the appeal in a statement he issued on Monday, said he knew the President was seriously ill when he did not show up in Kaduna last Saturday for the wedding ceremony of his grandson.

He stated that Nigerians needed to pray for the recovery of the President, whom he said had been fighting corruption seriously since he assumed office.

He said that corruption had started fighting back now and the nation needed Buhari to hold on to ensure a total victory against the forces of evil.

Akande, however, warned those who might want to make political gains from the President’s ill health to have a rethink, saying Nigeria of today was quite different from that of 1993.

The statement read, “The health of the leader is intricately intertwined with the health of the nation. It is more so in a delicately fragile union of nations called Nigeria. I did not see President Buhari at the wedding of his grandson in Kaduna last Saturday. I was sad and I wept.
hen last we met at the wedding of his daughter in Abuja last December, I complained to him that I was not happy about his stressful looks. His reply connoted some allusions to circumstances where an honest man fighting corruption is surrounded mostly by unpatriotic greedy ruling class. He felt painfully frustrated.

“He assured me he would soon be going on vacation. I then knew that corruption has effectively been fighting back. And I prayed for Nigeria. That was why Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and I rushed to meet him in London in February this year when he was sick and could not return as scheduled from his vacation. The rest is history but we must appreciate that his poor health is already taking its toll on the health of Nigeria as a polity.

“There are two challenges facing the country today. The first and the most critical is the health of the President which, unfortunately, is a development beyond his control and for which we did not prepare. The second is the disorder and lack of cohesion between the National Assembly and the Presidency.

“These are two great red-flag dangers that have the potential of plunging the country into unprecedented chaos and of destabilising the gains of democracy since 1999.

Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), and seven organisations on Monday said they felt compelled to advise Buhari to heed the advice of his London doctors to take further vacation and attend to his health.

Buhari’s absence at the last three Federal Executive Council meetings and last Friday’s Jumat service was a confirmation that his health was deteriorating contrary to the claim by the President’s handlers that ‘there is no need for apprehension over the matter’.
Falana and the groups expressed this concern in a statement jointly signed by them on Monday.

Those who signed the statement along with Falana were the Executive Director, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, Adetokunbo Mumumi; Executive Chairman, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, Debo Adeniran; Chairman, Civil Society Network Against Corruption, Olanrewaju Suraj; Programme Manager, Democracy Vanguard, Shina Odugbemi; Executive Director, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, Awwal Rafsanjani; and National Coordinator, Procurement Observation and Advocacy Initiative, Mohammed Attah.

Nigeria Spends Over $100m Annually To Import Sugar by jadoo(m) : 10:33 pm On May 02, 2017

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has declared that the apex bank is ready to partner the Lee Group and Jigawa State Government to ensure the establishment of a multi-billion naira white refined sugar cane factory that will generate N60 billion annually to the state.

Emefiele who spoke during the foundation laying ceremony of the 12,000 hectres of land in Garin Chiroma in Gagarawa Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, also regretted that Nigeria spends over $100 million annually for the importation of sugar which can be grown in the country.

According to him, “Nigeria today spends over $100 million importing sugar in the country whereas we can grow sugar Nigeria.”

He commended the Lee Group for investing in sugar production in Nigeria, saying, “by this initiative, you have helped in joining the Federal Government of Nigeria towards ensuring that we achieve our goal of diversifying away our economy from oil into a very important sector which is called agriculture.

“You (Lee Group) have touched the heart of Nigerians, you have touched the heart of the president, you have touched the heart of the federal government because through the clarion call of the president, you have answered that call and I can assure you that you will receive the needed support from the government.

“On our part as the CBN, I appeal to you to come over to us, whatever support you need to get this project on ground, so that in the next couple of months, we can come back and launch the programme, that support I assure you today, you will get from the CBN.”

Emefiele said sugar production is part of CBN’s core aspect of the anchor-borrower programme, while commending the Lee Group and Jigawa State government to have keyed into large-scale sugar production.
He added that CBN has concluded plans to support small farmers who are into sugar cane farming, “we will support not only Lee Group; we will also support other little farmers that are involved in sugar-cane planting so that as the farmers plant your sugar-cane, the Lee Group can also buy them off the farmers.

“Through that means, we have provided jobs for our people; and we have increased the wealth of our people. That is the anchor programme of the federal government and I want to thank all of you for being here today.”

The CBN governor who hailed Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for investing in agriculture, said: “Jigawa State is doing its best; even using its own little resources to support the efforts of the federal government in the anchor-borrower programme for rice.

“Only a couple of months ago, we were here in Jigawa State to see the harvesting of rice, today we have seen a foundation laying ceremony for a 12,000 hectres of land for growing sugar-cane. I congratulate you, Badaru and I can only assure you that whatever support you need from CBN, you will get from us.”

Speaking at the occasion, Badaru described the factory as an industrial complex which is designed to generate an all-year round employment, with over 15,000 workforce, just as 12 settlements have already been relocated and compensated.

The Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, noted that the cultivation of sugar, rice, wheat and milk form part of the 2017 budget in the agriculture sector as crops to be used in generating foreign exchange.

Ogbeh added: “We cannot survive from continuous importation of these products. Our youths are suffering from unemployment, but the jobs are in the farms and not in the ministries. Our plan is to create millionaire farmers in the country.”

The British Library’s rarely-seen Russian Revolution propaganda posters by jadoo(m) : 10:41 pm On May 02, 2017

This year marks 100 years passing since the Russian Revolution, and to reflect on the momentous impact it had on society there’s been a few exhibitions in London - one being the British Library’s fresh take on the revolution which opens to the public today.

Russian Revolution: Hope, Tragedy, Myths focuses on rarely-seen items, the "most unknown facts" and lesser known personal stories from the political spectrum - including a number of striking propaganda posters.

The exhibition unites tales of the central characters - Nicholas II and his abdication, caricatures of Rasputin featured in a satirical magazine from April 1917, Vladimir Lenin and Trotsky - as well as the stories of ordinary people. These are shown through posters, letters, photographs, banners, weapons, film and even items of Red Army uniform.

Image: Red Army poster (c) British Library

This poster is the work of Soviet artist Dmitrii Moor - one of the main founders of Soviet political poster design. The central figure encourages men to enlist in the Red Army, which echoes the famous British World War I recruitment posters featuring Lord Kitchener.

N21bn dividend: NB, shareholders clash by jadoo(m) : 11:14 pm On May 02, 2017

SHAREHOLDERS of Nigerian Breweries Plc, NB, and the Board of Directors are on a collision path over the plan by the company to convert the N21 billion cash dividend earlier proposed by the directors to ordinary shares.

A cross section of shareholders, who spoke to Vanguard said they have resolved to vote against the motion when it comes up for approval at the Annual General Meeting, AGM, tomorrow. According to them, the case has been reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC and the Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, for intervention. Vanguard investigations show that the directors would still push the proposal successfully given their majority stake in the event the face off leads to a pool. It is not yet clear if the regulatory authorities are stepping in to douse the tension. The NB’s Board of Directors had proposed N20.5 billion as final dividend, amounting to cash dividend of N2.58 per share, for the year ended December 2016. But the company later said it will seek shareholders approval at the AGM tomorrow to convert the cash dividend to scrip issue. According to the company, the conversion will help it to consolidate on its balance sheet. But speaking exclusively to Vanguard, the shareholders insisted that dividend payment is their right and must be paid once it is declared. Sir Sunny Nwosu, former National Coordinator, Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria, ISAN, opined that the move is a ploy by the directors to increase their stake in the company as a first step towards eventual exit from the Exchange. “We are totally against it because it is taking undue advantage of Nigerians. We are all aware that we are in recession and everybody needs every kobo; the directors do not need the dividend and, therefore, they want to use the scrip issue to increase their holding in the company. Whether it is one per cent or 001 per cent that the scrip issue will add to us as shareholders, it is not desirable to us. “What they are saying is that they could not transfer their dividend. But they have been transferring their dividend for 70 years, so, why don’t they bear with us at this time of difficulty. It would have been better if they had not declared the dividend and allow the interim dividend to remain as the final dividend than declaring dividend and at the same time complaining that they want to plough back the money. It then means that the dividend declared can be classified as fake dividend,” Nwosu added. Heric Akinduro, Chairman, Ibadan Zone Shareholders Association, said shareholders should be allowed to make a choice between converting their dividend to ordinary shares or going home with their dividend. “For those that have excess money, they can increase their holding, but for those that do not have, they should give them cash,” he said. Agreeing with others, Patrick Ajudua, National Chairman, New Dimension Shareholders Association, NDSA, said: “We are totally against it. Once a company has declared dividend, it should keep to it. We are after our dividend because most of us have reduction in our purchasing power and the cash dividend will enhance our financial position and enable us to meet our obligations. This plan is not the best for us and that is why we are against it.”

We should not limit the creativity of our engineers by jadoo(m) : 11:22 pm On May 02, 2017

Although I have written a lot of our editorials over the last few decades, the one in last week’s the April 24 issue of Automotive News slipped by me. That editorial, which maintained that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon should be banned from public roads, was misinformed and wrong.

It is up to consumers to decide if they want to buy a Demon.

The 840-hp Demon is not even the most powerful car available for purchase in the United States. There are several vehicles with more horsepower than the Demon and that may not be able to run at National Hot Rod Association drag strips without certain safety modifications (as is the case with the Demon). But they are all street legal, including a 1,500-hp Bugatti.

To suggest that a company should limit its choices to the public is simply wrong. We may have differences of opinion in our newsroom, but Automotive News will never suggest that if a vehicle complies with all rules and regulations, it shouldn’t have a right to compete in our marketplace.

Last week, a Honda Civic Type-R with a few pieces of safety equipment set a record for the fastest-ever lap for a front-wheel-drive production car at Germany’s Nurburgring Nordschleife racetrack

It will be available for sale soon. No one, including Automotive News, should suggest that any vehicle should be prohibited from sale.
[img][/img]
One of the great things about the auto industry today is that even with tough emission and safety standards and CAFE, there are more choices today than at any time in the industry’s history. It is truly remarkable that in spite of such strict standards, engineers are able to create vehicles that push the boundaries further and further.

Any buyer of a high-performance vehicle might be wise to attend one of the very good driving schools available. But it should be based on a conversation with the potential customer and the dealer.

This is a great time in the history of this industry, with so many choices from gasoline to electric to hydrogen. To suggest that anyone should limit the creativity of our engineers is simply wrong

World’s tallest drum was unveiled at African Drums Festival in Abeokuta by jadoo(m) : 11:56 pm On May 02, 2017

The second edition of the African Drums Festival kicked off in Abeokuta, the Ogun State with Governor Ibikunle Amosun unveiling an 18-feet high drum, an improvement over the 17-feet high drum unveiled last year. The 18-feet drum is acclaimed to be the world tallest drum.

The aim of the event, according to the state government, organisers of the programme, is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Africans through drums.

The three-day event witnessed performances from over 50 cultural troupes. But as at Thursday, troupes from five African countries as well as Cuba, Haiti and the United States of America (USA) had arrived.
The Thursday’s event witnessed beautiful performances from Ara, the female drummer, the Atilogwu troupe from Anambra State, the Wagnilo group and Oliworo ko kou of Benin Republic, among other performances.
The Ekemini Cultural Troupe made up of children from Akwa Ibom State warmed the hearts of the audience with their beautiful performance on the xylophone. Other local troupes from Nigeria were, Association of Kano State Troupes, Hubert Ogunde Cultural Troupe from Ogun State, Duro Ladipo Troupe, Shehu Troupe, Niger State, Oyo State Cultural Troupe and Ensemble Drums, Maliki Troupe of Borno State, Dawa Troupe from Plateau State, as well as troupes from Bayelsa, Osun, Katsina, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Imo and Benue States.

The foreign troupes were, the Association of intersection Haiti, Association Toffondji of Togo, Leydis Bernal Suarez of Cuba, Faso Djarabi of Burkina Faso, La Campagnie N’tsamini, Afro Media, USA, Gwari troupe, Ghana, Nikki Spooner from the city of Dallas, USA.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, in his goodwill message noted that the festival would rejuvenate and sustain the traditional culture of the participating countries, adding that the festival would continue to create opportunities for the youths to showcase their talents and dexterity on different drums.
The Monarch who spoke in Yoruba, said: “The African Drums Festival is a tourism haven and a boost to our unity as a people in Yorubaland and Nigeria in particular. Drums have continued to unite and add glamour to our lifestyle from time immemorial.
“I am glad at what I am seeing here today. Yoruba people are unique creatures because God created us first. God created us as humble beings and He gave us rich cultural heritage in which drum is derived from.
“But what is giving us great challenge is how to turn our (Yoruba) rich cultural heritage into money and we can only achieve this when we continue to promote our culture and tradition. Whatever we do, we must always strive to promote our culture and prevent it from going into extinction.
“I was speaking with the Alaafin where we were seated and we both commended Governor Ibikunle Amosun for putting this together. He is taking a good step in preserving and promoting our culture,” he said.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who also spoke in Yoruba, said: “What we are doing here today is very important in Yorubaland. Drum is a very important item in Yoruba culture. I read a lot of books and I have travelled far and wide and in all the places I have been to, I have never seen a talking drum except in Yorubaland.”
Highlighting some of the importance of African drums, the Monarch noted: “Drums are always present in all the palaces of Yoruba Monarchs. Every morning at 5am, drums wake up Yoruba Kings and always remind them of oaths they took to serve the people at all times unlike our politicians who don’t have anything to remind them of their pledges to the people who put them in power.
“African drums are used for making proverbs, to warn people of imminent dangers, to entertain, to mourn or announce the death of an important personality and they are also used during wars.”

The Alaafin who came in company of some of his wives and his personal drummers revealed that research by Yoruba scholars has shown that every family in Yorubaland has pedigree, which drummers can always interprete through their drums. The Monarch then went ahead to sing with his drummers who quickly interpreted his songs with their drums.
“I have learnt a lot from this event and I will go back home and tell my Governor, Senator Abiola Ajumobi to also organise something like this, but I don’t know who we are going to invite since Governor Amosun has already invited the whole of Africa, maybe we will invite the entire world for our own event,” the Monarch joked.
The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo in his remarks stressed the need for the Federal government to diversify the economy by promoting tourism, saying: “The era of cheap oil money is gone for good, we have to show the world that they have to come here with their big money to invest in our rich culture, tradition and tourism. We will get far more money from investing in our culture and tourism than what we will get from oil.
“In Yorubaland we cannot put away the important place of drum, we cannot dance without drum. Drum is important for communication because every drum is a talking drum. Drum is a major part of our culture. We are asking other states to please pick up other aspects of our culture and develop it like this,” he said.
Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed, represented by the Artistic Director of the National Troupe, Comrade Tsar Ukoh, commended the state government for organising the event.
He emphasised that no festival is complete in Africa without drums. “This Festival is particularly important because of its focus on an aspect of our heritage that we have either taken for granted or one that is gradually fading away. In traditional African societies and, perhaps elsewhere in the world, the kind of drums they beat or the beats of such drums are unique to their cultures. In other words, drums and their beats have meaning.
“I implore Ogun State to sustain this festival and urge other states to borrow a leaf from the Gateway State, by also organising their own Drums Festivals, culminating in a National Drums Festival that will bring together all the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Soyinka in his goodwill message said Ogun State is known for recording many firsts in all areas of human endeavour.“Many people tend to under-estimate the value of drum, the thing is just that of a habit. Whereas, it is a very sophisticated rhythm, it is a very sophisticated possession of human beings. We all live in the world of rhythm right from birth; in fact, from the heartbeat to the pulse.”
The host Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun in his address noted that the festival would further strengthen the bond among states in Nigeria, and Africa in general.
“This festival serves as a veritable platform for drummers, dancers and singers, not only from Nigeria, but from Africa to showcase their cultural heritage to the world. Drum is a strong weapon of communication.
“It has been described as the first telephone. Even before the advent of modern technology for communication, Africans have been using drums to communicate to one another,” he said.
Amosun disclosed that the state would write to the Federal Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to declare April 20 to 22 of every year as the official dates of the festival.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo noted that African history is incomplete without drums because the social and entertainment life of Africans is centred on it.

Creamy Vegan Split Pea Soup by jadoo(m) : 2:00 am On May 03, 2017

Green split peas are probably the least of all legumes to get attention in the cooking world. In fact, they are packed with a variety of nutrients and best of all, they are very inexpensive! Green split peas are an excellent source of fiber, providing almost half of your daily value in just ¼ cup of uncooked split peas. They are also a good source of iron and a great plant-protein source. Traditional split pea soups are usually made with ham for additional flavor but in this recipe that flavor comes from leeks and other aromatic herbs, adding a heartier and sweeter taste to this nutritious soup.

So, whatever the weather may be — snowy, chilly or sunny — enjoy this delicious soup knowing you are getting some health benefits, too.

Creamy Vegan Split Pea Soup

Serves 4 to 5

Ingredients

1 tablespoon canola oil
1 cup washed and chopped leek
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup peeled and chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery stalks
2 bay leaves
¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
1½ teaspoons dried basil
1 cup dried, rinsed green split peas
5 cups water or low-sodium vegetable broth
Salt and pepper to taste

grin
Directions

In a large pot, heat canola oil over medium heat. Add leek and garlic and sauté until leek has softened.
Add carrots, celery and spices to the pot and cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
Add split peas and water or broth to the pot, bring to a simmer and cook for 30 to 40 minutes or until peas are well cooked, stirring occasionally. Adjust taste with salt and pepper.
Remove bay leaves and pour mixture into a food processor or use an immersion blender to blend all ingredients.
Gradually add more hot water or vegetable broth to mixture to reach desired consistency.

11 Proven Health Benefits of Ginger by jadoo(m) : 2:26 am On May 03, 2017

Ginger is among the healthiest (and most delicious) spices on the planet.

It is loaded with nutrients and bioactive compounds that have powerful benefits for your body and brain.

Here are 11 health benefits of ginger that are supported by scientific research.

1. Ginger Contains Gingerol, a Substance With Powerful Medicinal Properties

Ginger is a flowering plant that originated from China.

It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, and is closely related to turmeric, cardomon and galangal.

The rhizome (underground part of the stem) is the part commonly used as a spice. It is often called ginger root, or simply ginger.

Ginger has a very long history of use in various forms of traditional/alternative medicine. It has been used to help digestion, reduce nausea and help fight the flu and common cold, to name a few.

This is what ground, fresh and sliced ginger looks like:

Fresh, Sliced and Ground Ginger

Ginger can be used fresh, dried, powdered, or as an oil or juice, and is sometimes added to processed foods and cosmetics. It is a very common ingredient in recipes.

The unique fragrance and flavor of ginger come from its natural oils, the most important of which is gingerol.

Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger, responsible for much of its medicinal properties. It has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects (1).

Bottom Line: Ginger is a popular spice. It is high in gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
2. Ginger Can Treat Many Forms of Nausea, Especially Morning Sickness

Fresh Ginger

Ginger appears to be highly effective against nausea (2).

For example, it has a long history of use as a sea sickness remedy, and there is some evidence that it may be as effective as prescription medication (3).

Ginger may also relieve nausea and vomiting after surgery, and in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy (4, 5).

But it may be the most effective when it comes to pregnancy-related nausea, such as morning sickness.

According to a review of 12 studies that included a total of 1,278 pregnant women, 1.1-1.5 grams of ginger can significantly reduce symptoms of nausea (6).

However, ginger had no effect on vomiting episodes in this study.

Although ginger is considered safe, talk to your doctor before taking large amounts if you are pregnant. Some believe that large amounts can raise the risk of miscarriage, but there are currently no studies to support this.

Bottom Line: 1-1.5 grams of ginger can help prevent various types of nausea. This applies to sea sickness, chemotherapy-related nausea, nausea after surgery and morning sickness.
3. Ginger May Reduce Muscle Pain and Soreness

Dumbbells

Ginger has been shown to be effective against exercise-induced muscle pain.

In one study, consuming 2 grams of ginger per day, for 11 days, significantly reduced muscle pain in people performing elbow exercises (7).

Ginger does not have an immediate impact, but may be effective at reducing the day-to-day progression of muscle pain (8).

These effects are believed to be mediated by the anti-inflammatory properties.

Bottom Line: Ginger appears to be effective at reducing the day-to-day progression of muscle pain, and may reduce exercise-induced muscle soreness.
4. The Anti-Inflammatory Effects Can Help With Osteoarthritis

Fresh and Sliced Ginger

Osteoarthritis is a common health problem.

It involves degeneration of the joints in the body, leading to symptoms like joint pain and stiffness.

In a controlled trial of 247 people with osteoarthritis of the knee, those who took ginger extract had less pain and required less pain medication (9).

Another study found that a combination of ginger, mastic, cinnamon and sesame oil, can reduce pain and stiffness in osteoarthritis patients when applied topically (10).

Bottom Line: There are some studies showing ginger to be effective at reducing symptoms of osteoarthritis, which is a very common health problem.
5. Ginger May Drastically Lower Blood Sugars and Improve Heart Disease Risk Factors

This area of research is relatively new, but ginger may have powerful anti-diabetic properties.

In a recent 2015 study of 41 participants with type 2 diabetes, 2 grams of ginger powder per day lowered fasting blood sugar by 12% (11).

It also dramatically improved HbA1c (a marker for long-term blood sugar levels), leading to a 10% reduction over a period of 12 weeks.

There was also a 28% reduction in the ApoB/ApoA-I ratio, and a 23% reduction in markers for oxidized lipoproteins. These are both major risk factors for heart disease.

This graph shows what happened:

Khandouzi, et al - 2015Photo Source: Suppversity.

However, keep in mind that this was just one small study. The results are incredibly impressive, but they need to be confirmed in larger studies before any recommendations can be made.

Bottom Line: Ginger has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve various heart disease risk factors in patients with type 2 diabetes.
6. Ginger Can Help Treat Chronic Indigestion

Pile of Ground Ginger

Chronic indigestion (dyspepsia) is characterized by recurrent pain and discomfort in the upper part of the stomach.

It is believed that delayed emptying of the stomach is a major driver of indigestion.

Interestingly, ginger has been shown to speed up emptying of the stomach in people with this condition.

After eating soup, ginger reduced the time it took for the stomach to empty from 16 to 12 minutes (12).

In a study of 24 healthy individuals, 1.2 grams of ginger powder before a meal accelerated emptying of the stomach by 50% (13).

Bottom Line: Ginger appears to speed up emptying of the stomach, which can be beneficial for people with indigestion and related stomach discomfort.
7. Ginger Powder May Significantly Reduce Menstrual Pain

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) refers to pain felt during a woman’s menstrual cycle.

Young Woman With Bloated Stomach

One of the traditional uses of ginger is for pain relief, including menstrual pain.

In one study, 150 women were instructed to take 1 gram of ginger powder per day, for the first 3 days of the menstrual period (14).

Ginger managed to reduce pain as effectively as the drugs mefenamic acid and ibuprofen.

Bottom Line: Ginger appears to be very effective against menstrual pain when taken at the beginning of the menstrual period.
8. Ginger May Lower Cholesterol Levels

Heart and Stethoscope

High levels of LDL lipoproteins (the “bad” cholesterol) are linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

The foods you eat can have a strong influence on LDL levels.

In a 45-day study of 85 individuals with high cholesterol, 3 grams of ginger powder caused significant reductions in most cholesterol markers (15).

This is supported by a study in hypothyroid rats, where ginger extract lowered LDL cholesterol to a similar extent as the cholesterol-lowering drug atorvastatin (16).

Both studies also showed reductions in total cholesterol and blood triglycerides.

Bottom Line: There is some evidence, in both animals and humans, that ginger can lead to significant reductions in LDL cholesterol and blood triglyceride levels.
9. Ginger Contains a Substance That May Help Prevent Cancer

Ginger Tea

Cancer is a very serious disease that is characterized by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells.

Ginger extract has been studied as an alternative treatment for several forms of cancer.

The anti-cancer properties are attributed to 6-gingerol, a substance that is found in large amounts in raw ginger (17, 18).

In a study of 30 individuals, 2 grams of ginger extract per day significantly reduced pro-inflammatory signalling molecules in the colon (19).

However, a follow-up study in individuals at a high risk of colon cancer did not confirm these findings (20).

There is some, albeit limited, evidence that ginger may be effective against pancreatic cancer, bre*st cancer and ovarian cancer. More research is needed (21, 22, 23).

Bottom Line: Ginger contains a substance called 6-gingerol, which may have protective effects against cancer. However, this needs to be studied a lot more.
10. Ginger May Improve Brain Function and Protect Against Alzheimer’s Disease

Ginger Root in a Wooden Bowl and Spoon

Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation can accelerate the aging process.

They are believed to be among the key drivers of Alzheimer’s disease and age-related cognitive decline.

Some studies in animals suggest that the antioxidants and bioactive compounds in ginger can inhibit inflammatory responses that occur in the brain (24).

There is also some evidence that ginger can enhance brain function directly. In a study of 60 middle-aged women, ginger extract was shown to improve reaction time and working memory (25).

There are also numerous studies in animals showing that ginger can protect against age-related decline in brain function (26, 27, 28).

Bottom Line: Studies suggest that ginger can protect against age-related damage to the brain. It can also improve brain function in elderly women.
11. The Active Ingredient in Ginger Can Help Fight Infections

Ground Ginger in Wooden Spoon

Gingerol, the bioactive substance in fresh ginger, can help lower the risk of infections.

In fact, ginger extract can inhibit the growth of many different types of bacteria (29, 30).

It is very effective against the oral bacteria linked to inflammatory diseases in the gums, such as gingivitis and periodontitis (31).

Fresh ginger may also be effective against the RSV virus, a common cause of respiratory infections (32).

12. Anything Else?

Ginger is one of the very few “superfoods” actually worthy of that term.

10 Things You Should Know Before Dating a Funny Guy by jadoo(m) : 2:38 am On May 03, 2017

1. We're guaranteed to make your day better, like a human version of pizza. Had a crappy day at work? Get in a fight with your best friend? You know that if you call us up to hang out, we'll get you laughing.

2. Funny guys are like garlic: bland stuff suddenly gets way better. We'll make even boring stuff awesome. Do you have to go help your brother move out of his dorm? Bring us along. Awkward family wedding? Check and see if you get a plus-one.

MORE FROM DATING AND RELATIONSHIP ADVICE

14 Little Moments That Make You Feel Single AF

How p0** Brought My Mom and Me Together

13 Things Not to Say to Someone Who's Always in a Relationship
3. We hate being called "funny guys." On a personal note, I hate writing this and even self-identifying as being funny. If people introduce us as funny or ask us to tell a joke on the spot, we'll retreat into our (probably) metaphorical shells.

4. Yes, we will make jokes during serious talks. Bear with us and don't get mad. Sometimes we can't resist making a so-bad-it's-really-bad-and-almost-good pun or throwing out an actually good one-liner. These moments might come during a serious talk about where our relationship is headed. Brace yourself.

5. But that doesn't mean we can't be serious. Half the time we're making jokes, we're still taking things seriously. But we're not about to start screaming, "HEY, GANG! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH DEATH, HUH? WHERE DO WE GO WHEN WE DIE? WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?" at your great aunt's funeral like some terrible stand-up. We are not insane. We still understand societal norms.

6. Just because we can crack some jokes doesn't mean we secretly want to break into comedy. Most of us are content with just making people laugh. Don't keep pushing us to take an improv class unless we bring it up. And if we do, get ready for long, weird hours and lots of questions about whether or not a particular joke is funny as we quadruple-guess ourselves.

7. Get ready for us to be really elitist about some of your favorite TV shows. Fuck The Big Bang Theory. Let's move on.

8. THERE'S PAIN BEHIND THESE EYES. All right, let's dial it down a bit, but just because we're making jokes doesn't mean we're constantly happy-go-lucky. If anything, it's a defense mechanism. Even if we're laughing, just check in with us sometimes.

9. We can't always be "on" with you. While our friends typically get our whole funny shtick 24/7, you're not always going to get that with us. Sometimes we need to be boring and unfunny.

10. We are your secret weapon at office dinner parties. We'll charm the h3ll out of anyone you need us to. Your boss? You coworkers? That weird guy you can't quite figure out? We're all best friends now. We are like locksmiths but with people.

“I Don’t Want To Contest Again” – Fayose by jadoo(m) : 9:42 pm On May 03, 2017

The Ekiti State Governor , Mr . Ayodele Fayose , has ruled out the possibility of contesting the senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections.

Clarifying that he will never seek any elective position again , he said his main preoccupation after leaving office would be to continue to agitate for a better Nigeria.

Fayose, however, refused to comment on the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, when asked by journalists, saying he would watch events as they unfold before making any comment on the issue.

The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday during a meeting with civil servants on grade levels one to seven in the state civil service.

Fayose, who saluted the workers for their courage and perseverance in the face of economic recession culminating in unstable payment of salaries, urged them to discountenance the rumour that he had received the second tranche of the Paris Club loan refund.

He explained that what the state got so far was N8.8bn, which was shared between the state and local governments, “with over 70 per cent of it expended on the payment of salaries instead of the 50 per cent agreed with the Federal Ministry of Finance.”

He advised the workers to register at the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in the interest of Ekiti.

“I don’t want to contest again, not even for senatorial race in 2019. One thing I have learnt was that, Ekiti people don’t normally participate in some government policies where data are collated. And it used to affect us in getting extra grants or favour from the Federal Government and international agencies.

“The Federal Government is planning to renovate 1,000 health centres in Nigeria and Ekiti got only three. When I enquired, they said the data used to compile the figures didn’t favour Ekiti. If they are to register for polio vaccine, our people won’t make themselves available, because of nonchalant attitude

“That is why I won’t care to declare more holidays for people to get registered. But I want to call on INEC to look into the faulty data capturing machines. We have had bad experiences since the commencement of the CVR programme last week and the commission must resolve all these anomalies in the interest of our people.

“I also want to note that all these problems won’t reoccur during the 2018 polls, that is the main reason why INEC, as a commission, must improve on its efficiency,” he said.

Fayose encouraged workers to indicate interest in the Fadama Graduate Unemployed Youth Support Programme for the training of 300 people in Ekiti that would specialise in commercial farming.

He added that his government was ready to give the necessary impetus to workers that showed interest in agriculture.

First ‘The Dark Tower’ the Highly Anticipated Stephen King Adaptation by jadoo(m) : 11:39 pm On May 03, 2017

Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for The Dark Tower, the highly anticipated adaptation of the beloved Stephen King book series. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel, the film stars Idris Elba as the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, two forces in constant opposition of one another, as the search for the titular Dark Tower continues.

The trailer certainly sets up the conflict that’s at the heart of the lengthy story of The Dark Tower books, doling out exposition in a way that’s easy for non-book readers to grasp instantly. However, unlike the books, the focus here appears to be from the perspective of young Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) as he experiences visions of another world that is not his own. Those visions lead him into the clash between the Gunslinger and the Man in Black in their endless battle for control of the Dark Tower. Beyond that, superfans get glimpses of King’s work, both in The Dark Tower series and other famous tomes and adaptations. (We’ll get into all of the Easter eggs in an upcoming article, so keep your eyes peeled!)

And while there are certainly plenty of nods and homages paid to the books, there’s something about this first trailer that doesn’t feel quite right. It’s Hollywoodized, to be sure, and doesn’t have that King feel, that almost indefinable sense of mystery and weirdness and permission to see things that shouldn’t be seen. As a four-quadrant movie, The Dark Tower looks like a fine adaptation, but I fear that some of King’s odder, darker aspects–those beloved by fans–might have been sanitized for the movie version. Your mileage may vary.

Watch the first The Dark Tower trailer below. The film also stars Tom Taylor and Katheryn Winnick and opens in theaters on August 4th

In a world full of superheroes, there’s only one Gunslinger. From the epic best-selling Stephen King novels, comes #DarkTowerMovie
In Theaters August 4.
Here’s the plot synopsis for The Dark Tower:

Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) is a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to Mid-World where he encounters the lone frontiersman knight Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), who is on a quest to reach the ‘Dark Tower’ that resides in End-World and reach the nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save Mid-World from extinction. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete.
