Police arrest 19 suspected cultist in alakuko by Esirakathlyn(f) : 7:36 am On Feb 09, 2021

NO ROOM FOR LAWLESSNESS, HOOLIGANISM IN LAGOS... CP LAGOS
*As 19 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Alakuko*
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has again renewed his vow to suppress any act of lawlessness and hooliganism across the length and breadth of Lagos State.
The police boss made the assertion today, Monday 8th February, 2021, while addressing and deliberating on security issues with the Area Commaders and Police Mobile Force Commanders in Lagos State.
The meeting centred on the general security and public safety of Lagos State as the command has recorded some acts of lawlessness in some areas of the state.
He warned the Motorcycle operators, commercial drivers and Lagosians in general to respect the laws of the state and desist from attacking police personnel and other security operatives who are enforcing the Lagos State Traffic Regulations and COVID-19 safety protocols. He emphasised that the command will continue to discharge its duties without fair or favour.
While reacting on the ongoing cult related fracas at Alakuko, Dalemo and Kola areas of the state, the police boss confirmed the arrest of nineteen (19) suspected cultists during the crises. Items recovered from them included dangerous weapons, assorted charms and weeds suspected
to be Indian hemp.
The Commissioner of Police set the record straight that the intelligence at the command's disposal revealed that the hoodlums came from Otta axis of Ogun State to lay siege on the affected border communities on cult related crises and the command has been repelling them. The command has deployed additional police personnel, including Police Mobile Force, to curtail the hoodlums; and restored normalcy to the crises affected communities. He has also directed that the arrested suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation.
CP Hakeem Odumosu however called on the community leaders in the areas to support the police in combating the crises and getting rid of the bad boys and their antics in their respective areas and in the state at large. He assured that the command is working assiduously with the Ogun State Police Command to decimate the activities of the hoodlums and cultists in the border areas and towns across the state.

Igboho warns federal government over frozen bank accounts by Esirakathlyn(f) : 7:42 am On Feb 09, 2021

Igboho Warns FG Over Frozen Bank Accounts, Rejects Award By Yoruba Youths
The Yoruba activist and warlord, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Ighoho yesterday warned the Federal Government over his frozen bank accounts and rejected award of recognition from the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) .
Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) in Ibadan, Igboho had alleged that all his bank accounts have been frozen by the Federal Government due to the fact that some people were collecting donations, saying he had no hands in it.
Igboho warned that his accounts have to be unfrozen to avoid nationwide protest by youths across the southwest region.
He also frowned against those collecting donations on his behalf, saying that he never asked anybody to request for money from the general public or seek donations.
The association’s National President Olalekan Hammed, and Olawale Ajao National Secretary in a statement on Sunday noted that the group had
lengthy discussion with Chief Sunday Igboho on the issue of security across Yorubaland.
The youth who commended him for his super patriotism, ultranationalism, extraordinary courage and passion towards eliminating threats to peace in Yoruba land, however, appealed to the government to unfreeze his account before he unleashed war against criminal elements not peace loving herdsmen.
The youth presented award to Chief Sunday Igboho to serve as recognition for his nationalistic struggle but rejected it.
Responding, Igboho said “I know you are behind me and appreciate my efforts but we are just starting, let’s achieve putting an end to criminalities in Yoruba land first and after we have achieved freedom an elaborate award ceremony can now follow. Thank you. I know you are doing everything to boost my morale, I appreciate YYSA”.
Igboho charged Governor Seyi Makinde to order the arrest of a suspected Fulani criminal, Iskilu Wakili who had been terrorising various parts of Ibarapaland over the last few days.
According to him, security agencies have so far taken no action.
“Yes the people are living in fear. They are afraid that the people might attack them and that is being done by one Isikilu Wakili. He has turned himself into terror and authority in the area and nothing is being done to address the situation.
“We heard about this two months ago and like I said nothing is being done to address it. If the governor hears about Wakili killing our people, harassing them and plundering their farm and yet little or nothing is being done, it is sad. We expected the governor to direct the security agencies to smoke him out but there is virtually no action”, he said.
While the association lamented over the activities of herdsmen who refused to vacate Ondo State forest reserves after ultimatum, Chief
Sunday Igboho said, “let Ondo State invite me and you will see if they are still going to remain in those forests.
“I am ready to fight deadly herders but needed a go ahead from governors”, he added.

Petrol scarcity looms as depot shut down by Esirakathlyn(f) : 7:49 am On Feb 09, 2021

By John Ofikhenua, Abuja
Scarcity of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol is imminent as depot owners were said to have shut down operations on Monday.
Depot owners were shutting down operations with the excuse that they have no products.
According to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) National Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Maigandi, the owners were also closing shops because of the speculated increase in the petrol price.
Despite the speculation, the Pipeline Products Marketing Company (PPMC) was yet to announce a new dealer price to marketers.
He spoke with The Nation on phone that depot owners have already raised their price by N7.
The National Vice President said the depots have increased their price from N148 to N155.
His words: “Even depot owners are shutting down because of the expected increase in price of petrol. The depot owners have increased the price from N138 to N145.”
He noted that IPMAN was yet to direct its members to increase their pump price since it was not sure that the depots adjusted their prices legally or illegally.
Speculations of imminent petrol price hike have been rife since the price of crude oil soared to $60 per barrel.
The cost of petroleum products is one of the components of the total landing cost of petrol in the pricing template of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
Besides, only last Thursday, stakeholders in the industry made a very veiled reference to plan to increase of petrol prices when the Federal Government said it was waiting for the outcome of the meetings of the Organised Labour before raising the freight cost from N7.51 to N9.11 per litre.
Freight cost is also one of the components of the total landing cost in the agency’s pricing template.
The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) had in its 21st Annual General Meeting in Niger State, urged the Petroleum Equalization Executive (PEF) Executive Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Bobboi, to commence implementation of the N9.11 freight cost.
When asked when the Federal Government would commence implementation of the new cost, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director, Mala Mele Kyari, told reporters the PEF ES “made a statement that there is ongoing engagement between the Federal Government and labour, and at the end of that process government will make an adequate pronouncement as to the effective date of that figure as contained in the pricing template”.

Burutai: Buhari repaid my father by making me chief of army staff by Esirakathlyn(f) : 8:03 am On Feb 09, 2021

The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), has admitted that the President gave him an appointment, because of the relationship between his father and Buhari.
Buratai stated this during a gala night organized by the 29th Regular Course Association in Abuja.
The event was to honour the ex Army Chief as the longest-serving COAS.
According to him, his appointment in July 2015 was a prize for the loyalty of his father, Yusuf Buratai, to Buhari.
Buratai’s father was a non-commissioned officer in the Royal West African Frontier Force and a World War II veteran who fought in Burma.
Buratai said, “My father was an ardent lover of the President and my appointment as COAS, therefore, was a price or reward for that gesture by the President.
“Of course, and as you have been told severally, we (the President and I) met in Njemena and he saw me and felt I was the right person to be COAS at that very crucial and critical moment of our history.
“And I am happy that we have discharged our responsibilities diligently, professionally and loyally, and I will continue to discharge my responsibilities to him and of course to our country and our people.

Armed robber operating civil defense uniform arrested by Esirakathlyn(f) : 8:17 am On Feb 09, 2021

An armed robbery suspect Adeolu Bankole who operates while wearing the uniform of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp NSCDC has been arrested by the operatives of Ogun State police command, IgbereTV reports.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was apprehended on the 5th of February 2021 following a complaint by some students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayetoro campus who reported at Ayetoro area Command that they were robbed of their belonging at gunpoint by an armed robber, who broke into their apartment, dressed in Civil Defense uniform and dispossessed them of their phones and laptop.
''Upon the report, the area Commander Ayetoro, ACP Anthony Haruna, detailed his detectives to go after the hoodlum. Amaechi: New Rail Port Development will increase gdp contribution by 7% by Esirakathlyn(f) : 8:24 am On Feb 09, 2021

The Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that the new rails and deep seaports being developed by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration across the country will improve transport GDP contribution from 3 per cent to 10 per cent.
The minister said this, on Monday, while delivering the Founders’ day lecture titled: ‘The role of Transportation in nation-building.’ at his alma mater, the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Amaechi said transportation is about logistics. The duty of transportation is to contribute to the different spheres of economic development. Its absence will cripple an economy and dwarf human and economic development.
“Transportation in Nigeria is a means of economic and political growth in the development of Nigeria. The impact is felt in tourism, real estate development, agriculture and others. Transportation currently contributes about 3 per cent of the gross domestic product according to the Nigerian Bureau for statistics,” he said.
He went down history lane to explain the importance of linking different transportation modes, stating that by 1916, the Port Harcourt port had been connected to the Coal mines in Enugu, with the objective of evacuating coal to Britain.
Outlining the work being done in connecting the country for ease of transportation of products, goods and people, Amaechi said the Eastern rail line would be connected to the Western line via Karfanchan, while the Warri-Itakpe line would be connected to the same line via Abuja and onwards to Kaduna-Kano.
“The Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail line was extended to Bonny, on the way to Bonny, it’ll pass through the Ogoni axis and terminate at Onne Seaport; then from Port Harcourt to Owerri, it’ll pass through Ubima with a connecting line to the Western line at Karfanchan. The Port Harcourt-Maiduguri line is also extended to Damaturu and Gashua in Yobe State. What makes this line unique, is that you’ll have a University and an Industrial Park in Rivers State.
“Hopefully the segment from Ibadan to Kano will commence this year,” he added.
For Seaports, Amaechi said: “You can’t have an efficient transportation system without seaports. You must end at the seaports for the importation of goods or export to boost your economy. For this reason, President Buhari has approved the construction of three major seaports. The first one is Lekki deep seaport. It’s under construction and will be completed in 2022.
“The second one is at Bonny, and we’ll commence construction later this year. We chose Bonny because it is right there at the ocean. So we don’t have a problem with the draft. Even if we get 14-15 metres, we can dredge up to 2-3 metres more and we get 17 than to get just 10 in Port Harcourt.”
The deepest in Nigeria, for now, is the Onne seaport with 11-12 metres draft. But these days, vessels of 11metres draft have been abandoned for those of 16-17 metres. That’s the reason why we go to the high sea for transfer of cargoes to vessels with lower draft size. So these three new seaports will have the capacity to take vessels of 16-17 metres draft. The third seaport is at Warri and another one is being done by the Akwa Ibom State government with a private investor.
“I believe that with these seaports and rail lines, we’ll move from 3 per cent GDP contribution to between 6 and 10 per cent,” Amaechi said.
He also noted plans for sustainability of the projects being put in place by the Buhari administration.
“When Nigerians ask of our plans for sustainability and maintenance of these projects, my response is ‘transfer of technology.’ So the Chinese cannot just come here and dump the technology on us. We insisted that they create a Transportation University for us. We told them, for 5 years, you hire lecturers, pay the lecturers, let them train our people who will take over from them, and that is what we’re doing in Daura, Katsina State. For the one in Rivers State, I felt that Transportation University in Daura is enough, so we told the Portugese company that will build the Kano-Maradi line to come to Port Harcourt and build a Multi-disciplinary University with different faculties, including a transport faculty. Before September, we will start construction.
“As a short term measure, we also sent 300 Nigerians for training in China. They are being trained in railway engineering. This year, in September, we’ll be sending another 300 to Portugal to study the technology in the building of the Kano-Maradi rail line, which is purely European.”
For maritime security, Amaechi said the deep blue project will be in full effect before the end of the year. We plan to launch the security personnel into the water before June. He also assured Nigerians that the Federal Government has not abandoned the planned coastal rail. He said negotiations are still on to secure funding for the Lagos-Calabar rail line.
Second Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt and Chairman of the Founders’ day celebration, Prof SJS Cookey lauded the minister for his contribution to the growth of the country as Minister of Transportation and acknowledged him for continuing to give back to the University years after graduation.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Stephen. A Okodudu in his speech said the University of Port Harcourt founded in 1975 has come of age. He thanked the Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi for the lecture and for always taking advantage of every opportunity to market the university.
