Worthyayoze: Overs the past two decades, two of the arguably best players in their generation. Happens to be barcelona talisman Lionel messi and juventus marksman Cristiano Ronaldo who had been making headlines, several nominations for different football Awards. But they have come to a stage of decline where both can no longer score an average 50 goals per season for their club. They have reached their diminishing returns which is evitable. They will forever be remembered for their deeds.mp

Re: Abducted Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri and his driver regain their freedom by David4401(m) : 7:32 pm On Jan 03, 2021

I'm just happy for them
jadoo51:

Abducted Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Achdiocese, Most Rev. Doc. Moses Chikwe, and his driver, Ndubuisi Robert, have regained their freedom.

Recall that the Bishop and his driver were abducted on December 27, 2020 while they were driving along World Bank – Umuguma road in Imo state.

Confirming their safe release to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the clergyman and his driver were released unhurt and without any ransom paid. Ikeowku said this was sequel to a sting operation by the men of the Imo State Police Command.

The cleric's driver was however rushed to the hospital after their release so he could receive treatment for a deep cut inflicted on him by their abductors.

Re: Nearly a dozen Republican senators announce plans to vote by David4401(m) : 11:13 pm On Jan 03, 2021

I love United States
atoluwash:

The Joe Biden vs Donald Trump electoral drama is showing no signs of stopping soon as nearly a dozen Republican senators and senators-elect announced Saturday, January 2, 2021, they will vote against counting electoral votes next week when Congress is expected to certify President-elect Joe Biden's victory -- despite no credible evidence suggesting widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.

The 11 Republican lawmakers said they intend to support an objection to the Electoral College votes, if one is brought, and propose an election commission to conduct an "emergency 10-day audit" of the election returns in the "disputed states."

The group of Republican senators includes Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Steve Daines of Montana, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Mike Braun of Indiana, Sens.-elect Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.

The statement reads:

"A fair and credible audit—conducted expeditiously and completed well before January 20—would dramatically improve Americans' faith in our electoral process and would significantly enhance the legitimacy of whoever becomes our next President. We owe that to the People,"
They added that Congress' vote on January 6 is the "lone constitutional power remaining to consider and force resolution of the multiple allegations of serious voter fraud."

US Vice president, Mike Pence who has the traditional role of endorsing the electoral college votes certification endorsed the move on Saturday.

"Vice President (Mike) Pence shares the concerns of millions of Americans about voter fraud and irregularities in the last election. The Vice President welcomes the efforts of members of the House and Senate to use the authority they have under the law to raise objections and bring forward evidence before the Congress and the American people on January 6th," said Marc Short, the chief of staff for the vice president, in a statement.

It is a huge doubt that the move from Trump's Republican allies could change the election outcome, with experts saying it could delay the affirmation of Biden's victory as the Electoral College winner and the next president.

Remember on Wednesday, Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley became the first senator to announce plans to object to the results -- a significant move since both a House member and senator are required to mount an objection when Congress counts the electoral votes.

At least 140 House Republicans are expected to vote against counting the electoral votes in Congress, according to two GOP House members.

Hawley on Saturday tweeted that he's "glad to see more Senators joining the fight."

In their statement, the 11 GOP senators and senators-elect did not specify the states they intend to reject, but Hawley has signaled that he plans to object to at least certification in battleground state Pennsylvania.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, seemingly dismissed the announcement Saturday from the handful of Republicans, tweeting: "Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be President and Vice President of the United States in 18 days."

Mike Gwin, a spokesperson for Biden, completely dismissed the plan from the Republican senators, calling it a "stunt" on Saturday.

"This stunt won't change the fact that President-elect Biden will be sworn in on January 20th," Gwin said.

"And these baseless claims have already been examined and dismissed by Trump's own Attorney General, dozens of courts, and election officials from both parties."

Trump has been pushing for Congress to try to overturn the election result, while his campaign's attempts to overturn the election through the courts have repeatedly failed.

Re: Alaafin not aware I contested Miss Oyo until I won –daughter, Adedoja Adeyemi by David4401(m) : 11:20 pm On Jan 03, 2021

She is amazing beauty
jadoo51:

Background

I am 24 years old and a daughter to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi. I am enthusiastic about African culture and domestic tourism. I run a blog where I showcase and promote African heritage. I am also the co-founder of a non-governmental organisation, Adeyemi Sisters Special Foundation. I am the Vice-President of the Yoruba Tourism Forum as well. I like activism and human rights too. During my undergraduate days, I was a unionist. I was the social secretary of the National Association of Oyo Students, and the vice-president of the History and International Studies Student Association at Osun State University in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Memories

My fondest childhood memories were during holidays. Most of my cousins and other relatives spent their holidays in the palace, and there were a lot of cultural activities. I remember we played a lot, went for physical training with Alaafin on weekends and took holiday lessons in English, Arithmetics and Arabic. The elderly queens in the palace taught us cultural norms, etiquette, and royal poetry (oriki).

Education

I attended St. Francis Catholic Nursery and Primary School, Oyo, for my elementary education. I proceeded to EACOED Model High School, Oyo, for my secondary education. I went on to Osun State University, where I got a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and International Studies. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in African and Diaspora Studies at the University of Lagos.

Parents

When I was younger, I was not particularly close to the Alaafin because he treats all his children the same way. Even his adopted children and other relatives have equal access to him. However, I am a bit closer to him now, especially since I studied History at the university. Me and my father talk about history and culture, as well as other relevant personal and real-life topics. Sometime ago, I was to write a seminar paper for an international conference and I was in Lagos observing the national youth service scheme and I needed his help. From Oyo, he sent text messages of relevant points to me. Our relationship is very cordial. We don’t talk every day but when we do, it is always inspiring and insightful.

Family

I have cordial relationships with my stepmothers and sisters. There is a tradition of co-existence in the palace. If my father takes a new wife, she would have a palace mother among the elderly wives who would teach her about the culture and traditions of the palace. When the new wife gives birth, her child would stay with her palace mother. My father’s first wife, Ayaba Abibat Adeyemi, is my mum’s palace mother. She has been taking care of me since I was a baby. Whenever I am in the palace, I sleep in her quarters. Some people even think she is my biological mother. My biological mother is Ayaba Mujidat Adeyemi.

Privileges

As a daughter to the Alaafin of Oyo, one has to work extra hard. We (Alaafin’s children) were brought up to always work hard. My father is a no-nonsense man and he does not joke with discipline. My siblings are all hard-working because our father does not give room for mediocrity, and that has helped us in understanding real-life situations. Often times, people think one does not deserve what one gets or works hard for, just because one is a princess, and that is very sad. Those who know me can attest to the fact that I do not just rely on being a princess; I like to make things happen (for myself). Being the daughter of a first-class king can open some doors but only character would keep those doors open.

Adeyemi Sisters Special Foundation

In 2015, when I was the Social Secretary of the National Association of Oyo Students, we celebrated Children’s Day with pupils of the Oyo School for the Handicapped. They were so happy to receive us and their house mistress told us that the children usually didn’t get invites for Children’s Day events. However, I witnessed something beautiful that day― about 95 per cent of those children had talents. Some could sing, some could drum, some could dance and some were very vast in current affairs. So, I told my friend, Owolabi Jamiu, that we had to do something to make the children always happy. That occurrence increased my love for humanitarian concerns and we visited them occasionally. In 2017, my elder sister, Adeteju, who worked as an administrative officer at the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, told me about her love for people with special needs and how most of them were very hardworking and brilliant. I also told her about my 2015 experience and she said we should start a foundation. That was how the Adeyemi Sisters Special Foundation became operational in 2017.

Miss Oyo

Initially, I was not a pageant enthusiast and this is the first time I contested one. When the form for the Miss Oyo pageant came out, a friend and former Miss Oyo State, and my sister advised me to apply for the pageant with faith that I could win. I was not convinced but I had two things in mind. Firstly, the experience that I would gain, either I won or lost the pageant. Secondly, the impact I would like to make with the platform. Being a queen is not just about the title. I told myself that if I won, it would give me a bigger platform to showcase what I had been doing― promoting my culture and community development.

Camp

It was a very rigorous exercise and I was really impressed. We were camped for just four days and we worked very hard. Our dance and catwalk instructors put in their best for us. About 90 per cent of the ladies who contested the pageant had never been involved in pageantry before. So, they had to train us. We worked around the clock, and at times, we only slept for a maximum of four hours. I am happy that I gained that experience.

Expectations

Being crowned Miss Oyo was a dream come true for me because I’m a very shy and reserved person. A few years ago, I would never have participated in a pageant. This is me outside my comfort zone, hence winning is a big deal for me. I appreciate the organisers for giving me the opportunity to participate, as well as family members and close friends who encouraged me tirelessly. It is a testimony to the fact that if one aims for something and is ready to put in work, one can achieve it.

I intend to use this platform for community development projects, especially on culture and humanitarian concerns such as rape, HIV and physical disabilities.

Criticisms

Everybody has something to say and I am not ignorant of that. When I won, I saw a lot of insensitive comments. Some people asked, ‘What is beautiful about her’? Some said, ‘She won because she is the daughter of the Alaafin of Oyo’, and so on. However, I am not bothered. Interestingly, my father was not even aware I contested this pageant until I won. The judges did not know who I was and I did not know any of them. When I was in camp, I did not reveal my identity to anybody. The Miss Oyo pageant has been on for about 18 years and this is the first time a princess would win. I believe the pageant is very free and fair. One would win if one has what it takes to do so. I deserved to win because I am from Oyo State, and I’m also intelligent and beautiful. Winning had nothing to do with my linage.

However, my father was very happy when he learnt that I won the pageant, and he is proud of me.

People should also think about what their negative comments could do to the mental health of others.

Misconceptions

I could be a very shy and reserved lady but some people mistake it for pride.

Sacrifice

When me and my sister started our NGO, it was not easy because we did not get enough support. My mum supported occasionally but I remember that my sister used part of her salary to fund some of our outreach programmes. I was still a student then and I also used part of my pocket money to buy some of the items we donated. However, the sacrifices were worth it and they made me very happy.

Qualities

Some of the personal qualities that have helped me include believing in God, humility, kindness, discipline and hard work.

Inspiration

I get inspiration from a lot of people and things around me. On the other hand, I am scared of being betrayed by someone I really trust.

Beauty

I don’t have a beauty routine

Moments

My most memorable moment was the first time in I saw my mum in 12 years.

She had travelled out of the country when I was nine years old, she came back in 2017. That was 12 years after I had seen her last. However, while she was away, we had a very close relationship. We used to talk every day. I did not even really feel she was away.

Hobbies

I like watching movies, and travelling for tourism and seeing nature in its glory.

Re: Even with three daughters I’ll be satisfied –Seyi Law by David4401(m) : 11:39 pm On Jan 03, 2021

This is positive i like it
atoluwash:

Comedian, Oluwaseyitan Aletile, popularly known as Seyi Law, does not only dote on his first daughter, Tiwa, he also loves to show off his family.

Law took many by surprise when he announced the birth of his second daughter with his wife, Stacey, because he did not share any photos of his wife while she was pregnant.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the comedian stated that the pregnancy was not shrouded in secrecy but he wanted her to enjoy the nine-month journey on her terms. He said, “Some celebrities keep their pregnancies secret but that is not it for me. I hold my family dearly and I am always proud to show them off. There was really no reason we did make my wife’s pregnancy known to the public. A woman’s body changes during pregnancy and she may not want to be so out there at those times. We did not hide my wife’s pregnancy. I just did not want to post her photos. I wanted her to enjoy her pregnancy.

It was not about me but her. She is on social media but does not post much. 2020 was a wholesome year for me. Many lives were lost but I had an addition to my family and I am very grateful to God. Posting pictures of my wife and children is my way of showing gratitude to God for the beautiful things He has given me. The birth of my second child was the icing on the cake for me. At some point last year, some people could even have contracted COVID-19 unknowingly but miraculously got well. I lost several family members in 2020 but December ended well. Despite the ones we lost in the past (miscarriages), before and after Tiwa. In fact, we should have had a child last year but we lost it due to a medical condition. I don’t know about anyone else but I am thankful.”

When asked if he was there during the delivery of his new daughter, Seyi Law said, “Unfortunately, I could only watch the delivery on phone. I was not there physically with her. Her friend was there, so we had a video call. My wife had been schooling in the United Kingdom since 2019 and she had the baby there.

I am not one of those men who prefer male children to females. I just want to have three children, then stop, though that is still open to discussion. Having Tiwa made me bond better with girls. I don’t know about boys at all. I f I have three girls, I am satisfy. I love this experience. I cannot wait for Tiwa to be grown enough to go on outings with me. I am sure some people would be jealous because I have seen admirable daughter/father relationships and they were a wonder to behold.”

Re: Transfer: Lampard Signs New Chelsea Goalkeeper by David4401(m) : 6:58 pm On Jan 04, 2021

English Premier League side, Chelsea have signed goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe from Burton Albion.

However, the club manager, Frank Lampard won’t be playing the 17-year-old as backup for Kepa Arrizabalag in the 2020/2021 season.

The newly signed keeper will be sent out on loan with the League One outfit.

Ad by Valueimpression
The young stopper was called up to the England U17s in February and has also featured in several pre-season clashes before signing for the Blues.

“It’s brilliant and it has all happened so fast. Burton have developed me so well and now it’s another new beginning and, hopefully, I can develop further with Chelsea.”

“‘I’m excited to be joining such a great club, especially as they are known for bringing on young players,” Sharman-Lowe told the club’s website.

Lampard is still in the market for another goalkeeper, with Rennes’ Eduardo Mendy a top target.
