Assumption Based Agricultural Theories And Practices In Nigeria. by AmakaUche(f) : 9:29 pm On Mar 02, 2020

There are myth based theories pertaining to agriculture in Nigeria that have been passed on for ages, bringing about huge constraints in the country's agricultural practices and development. Surprisingly, these assumptions have found a way into our schools/learning institutes which ought to be in the best position to conduct meaningful research that will either debunk or validate unfounded theories and aid agricultural growth, instead the reverse is the case because agricultural research in our institutions is highly limited by a number of factors, leaving us with a handicap learning system that teaches more theories than practicals. Unfortunately, the few research works that have somehow reached successful conclusion are sparingly put into good use , but let me not digress further into that.
An assumption based theory that has largely been accepted by alot of us is the myth that some crops can simply not be grown at all in Nigeria or in some parts due to factors like soil type, weather and climate etc. This may be true for some crops but it is definitely not true for a number which many have completely written off as regards their chances of survival/growth if cultivated with zero attempts of experimenting. A typical example is the believe that crops such as apples grown in the temperate regions of the world cannot be grown anywhere in a tropical country like Nigeria except probably in northern parts like Jos were the temperatures are mostly low and the soil is more conducive but this is not true because I can personally attest to the fact that these apples can be grown in typically tropical regions. We decided to plant one in our hometown in delta were we currently reside a couple of months ago and it is doing pretty well, it even survived brutal disturbances in the early stages from our domesticated turkeys that kept attempting to feed on all the leaves. Coincidentally, some time later, my brother met a man who had successfully grown the green variety to maturity in his delta state home.
He instantly identified ours to be the red variety and stated his interest to grow it too. According to the man his green variety had already beared him fruits and d only observed difference is that they weren't as sweet as the one whose seeds he planted, this I believe may be attributed to the fact that cooler temperatures have been proven to contribute to the sweetness of certain fruits/vegetables like carrots but for these temperate region apples now grown in tropical Nigeria, it is yet another assumption.

Agricultural Nonchalance, Specie Endangerment And Extinction In Nigeria by AmakaUche(f) : 11:58 pm On Mar 02, 2020

Some days I have cravings to savor the natural flavors of fruits that have gradually become unfamiliar to my taste buds through the years. I miss snacking on a big bowl of eye catching serunium cherries and plums, yes I definitely said plums!!!. I'm not sure whether or not to say we 'have' or 'had' those too because many years have passed since I last saw anything that looks like the sweet little yellow plums that grew on nigerian soil. What's worse is that they are a few others I only now have a fading memory of but not a known name for and it is all our fault that many have gone into extinction; fruits, vegetables, livestock and food crops alike while a whole lot are fast become endangered as the day goes bye but what do we care?. It is a shame that we value anything foreign but neglect what is ours. Once upon a time it wasn't just oranges, pineapples, bananas, mangoes and all the others the white man named. What happened to all the others we ought to hv nurtured and preserved for the generations unborn?

I definitely wouldn't want to be in her shoes. It's funny how you talk about balance only to loose your balance at that moment indeed.

Re: Tboss opens up on Uti Nwachukwu being the father of her baby girl by AmakaUche(f) : 1:49 am On Mar 03, 2020

In my opinion, the innocent baby should not be dragged into whatever it is that people have against her mother. She is cute and simply innocent and as for who the childs father is, it honestly should be no ones business because that's her private life.

It is great to know that some of these terrorists can actually change for the better but the clear case of misplaced priorities is what is being addressed by adekunle gold and I see reason with him.

Re: why are agricultural product expensive by AmakaUche(f) : 3:09 am On Mar 03, 2020

High cost of agricultural products in some part of the country can be due to a number of reasons:

1. Cost of transportation- in Nigeria particularly, most of the farming activities are carried out in the northern parts and cost of conveying agricultural produce to other parts of the country can be quite expensive. A large percentage of agricultural produce are also imported.

2. Poor storage facilities and perishable nature of some agricultural produce- In Nigeria, there is lack of adequate storage facilities for proper storage of some agricultural produce mostly perishables, alot of produce go bad due to improper storage and handling during the process of transporting them. On getting to the buyer/consumer, prices of the few good ones are sold at a higher cost than usual by the traders to avoid running into losses.

3. Middle men- When agricultural produce leave the farm the prices naturally increase from wholesalers to retailers before they get to the final consumers because these middle men aim at making their individual profit. Buying directly from farmers is a cheaper alternative especially if you are looking to buy in bulk.

4. Scarcity- prices of scarce goods tend to sky rocket unlike when they are in abundance. Pest and disease infestation among a number of factors can be responsible for scarcity.

Re: My Wife's Sister is About to Crash my Marriage, Please Help by AmakaUche(f) : 3:18 am On Mar 03, 2020

I think your wife and her sister may be trying to test your fidelity since she isnt saying anything about it and often leaves u alone at home with her sister, but that is only an assumption. Despite how difficult it may seem, you should try to bring up the issue and trash it out with your wife to avoid falling into the badly pressing temptation, after all your partner is meant to be the closest person to you. Effective and sincere communication is the only way to solve this.

Re: "I Am A Virgin But I Just Discovered That I'm Pregnant" ... What Can I Do? by AmakaUche(f) : 3:24 am On Mar 03, 2020

It may be difficult to believe but this is actually very possible when semen from the man finds it's way into the enterance of the virgina without you actually having intercourse. Semen can survive outside the body for a period of time and live inside the uterus for about 5 days.
