Jamiu Azeez cries for help as he open up on depression by atoluwash(m) : 9:31 pm On Apr 11

After the recent tragic passing of the promising Nollywood actress Jumoke Aderounmu, fellow Nollywood actor Jamiu Azeez has come forward to reveal his battle with depression.

Azeez took to social media to share a conversation he had with Toyin Abraham, where he opened up about his mental state.

Azeez admitted to suffering from depression for over two years but had kept it hidden, fearing public judgment. Feeling lost and uncertain about whom to trust, he eventually reached a breaking point and decided to share his struggles.

In recounting the conversation, Azeez expressed appreciation for Abraham's supportive reaction and handling of his confession.

“Mummy Ire, @toyin_abraham, I know this might catch you off guard, but I simply had to do this. You over looked the fact that we dont really talk but you shown me so much love and gives me an assurance that everything is going to be fine

The past two years have been a whirlwind for me like I’ve been losing everything, even my Mind. Thoughts of “Suicide” have been ringing in my head.

The fear of being mocked kept me silent. Nothing seemed to work, and I felt lost, unsure of who to confide in.

But the truth is, I grew tired of putting on a brave face and pretending to be okay.

So, yesterday, I mustered the courage to reach out to @toyin_abraham, and her response left me speechless. I feel compelled to express my deepest gratitude openly.

I’ve prayed for her countless times, but now I ask for your prayers too, please help me pray for @toyin_abraham and her family.”

Veteran Nigerian actress, Ini Edo, expressed her dismay over the absence of regulatory mechanisms in Nollywood in the wake of her colleague, Junior Pope's passing.

The Nigerian populace was deeply saddened upon learning of Junior Pope's demise, despite concerted efforts to save him following a drowning incident.

Ini Edo has now voiced her concerns, emphasizing that the late actor's tragic fate shouldn't have been the catalyst for Nollywood to institute the comprehensive regulatory framework urgently needed to safeguard productions.

She asserted that Junior Pope's untimely death should serve as a catalyst for change and called for a thorough overhaul of the system, advocating for practical guidelines that would ensure the safety of everyone involved in emergencies.

In her words: “Jnr Pope did not have to sacrifice his life for nollywood to realize the need for a long and much needed regulatory structure that would safeguard an entire production . Yes .. every one is a producer now and all are guilty of negligence of some sort.. and this has to stop. This is one sacrifice too many and must count for something … The system has to undergo a total overhaul with practical rules and regulations that caters to everyone in cases of emergencies…. I will never understand why the good ones go so soon. Rest on brother … This one cuts really deep”

IK Ogbonna demands immediate safety measures, admonishes late-night shoots by atoluwash(m) : 1:23 pm On Apr 12

Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna, known for his roles in Nollywood, has responded to the passing of his colleague Junior Pope and several crew members following a tragic drowning incident. This event has cast a somber shadow over Nollywood's history.

In solidarity with fellow industry members, Ogbonna has emphasized the immediate need for safety regulations within Nollywood. He stresses the necessity of having a dedicated medical department on every film set.

Ogbonna highlights the detrimental effects of late-night filming, underscoring the importance of ample rest for the well-being of cast and crew. He expresses hope that this heartbreaking loss will serve as a catalyst for change, potentially preventing future tragedies and preserving lives.

He wrote: “We must urgently address the issue of safety in Nollywood. There are several important points I would like to emphasize, but to summarize, it is crucial that every movie set includes a medical department from now on. Additionally, we need to seriously consider the impact of late-night shoots, particularly on those who work tirelessly back-to-back. When the body does not receive proper rest, it inevitably begins to deteriorate (fail). It is disheartening to say but we only hear of the celebrated we lose, but we tragically lose crew members all too frequently. May this unfortunate loss serve as a catalyst for change, ultimately saving lives.”

Additionally, she defended Mohbad's mother's actions, suggesting that her prolonged absence from her children was due to enduring significant hardships at the hands of Mr. Joseph Aloba.

“Are you crazy? All of you cursing that woman will be affected by that curse and your home generations. Most of your mothers are worthless and can’t even be showed off,” she said partly in the Yoruba language.

Ugezu Ugezu makes case for Nollywood, blames general system failure by atoluwash(m) : 8:11 pm On Apr 13

Renowned actor and filmmaker Ugezu J. Ugezu has come to the defense of Nollywood in the wake of the passing of the late actor Junior Pope. He criticizes the shortcomings of the broader system, emphasizing the public scrutiny faced by entertainers.

In a post on his Instagram page, Ugezu remarked that while individuals from all walks of life pass away regularly, those in the entertainment industry are subject to heightened public attention, resulting in their deaths becoming widely discussed.

Ugezu argues that it's time to address systemic failures without attributing them to spiritual causes, as these issues extend beyond Nollywood alone. He emphasizes that government inefficiency creates an environment where fraudulent religious leaders can exploit the vulnerable.

In essence, Ugezu underscores the need to address systemic issues rather than relying on spiritual explanations, highlighting the broader societal challenges faced by both Nollywood and the Nigerian populace.
His words: “If only you knew how many bankers who kpai every week…if only you knew how many police officers who kpai every month…if only you knew how many pastors/priests who kpai every month…if only we have a clear data on citizens that kpai monthly, we may settle down and understand the systematic destruction of the health sector. Entertainers are domiciled publicly and theirs go viral always. Time has come to expunge spiritualism from clear system failure. It is not just a Nollywood disaster like many allude. IT IS A GENERAL SYSTEM DISASTER.”

“Producers killed Junior Pope, they blacklisted him” actor Frank Tana by atoluwash(m) : 8:50 pm On Apr 13

Actor Frank Tana recently took to social media to share some startling information about the death of Junior Pope.

Posting on Instagram, Tana revealed that while he typically refrains from using social media to discuss matters, he felt compelled to do so following the tragic passing of his colleague, Junior Pope.

He conveyed that Junior Pope's demise was more complex than a mere boat accident, suggesting there was a deeper narrative behind it. Tana disclosed that Junior Pope had essentially been sidelined by major producers in the industry, resulting in his struggle to find work in movies for many years.

Tana discussed Junior Pope's ongoing struggle to make ends meet, often resorting to various odd jobs in Enugu, Oweri, and Lagos just to sustain himself.

Furthermore, Tana emphasized Junior Pope's determination as a hustler and lamented how he was overlooked by Nollywood producers, forcing him to accept any job opportunity available, including the ill-fated boat trip in Anam.

In his words, he had this to say,

“Hi friends. I hardly speak. I hardly come to social media to talk. But this time around What k!IlEd Junior Pope? It’s not even the boat capside or something, no. That is not the ontological of his death. Junior Pope dled many years ago. Junior Pope was k!llEd by our producers. Yes, the major producers killed Junior Pope.

The cartel, they k!lled Junior Pope. I am saying this because nobody is feeding me and nobody can feed me. I’m already made and I’m made for life. I am bigger than all of them. Bigger, far bigger than all of them. People that know me, we testify to that. Our producers k!Iled Junior Pope. How did they k!!! him?

Let me tell you. Less than. When I came to Nollywood, when I saw Junior Pope, the way people outside see him is not the way he is in Nollywood.

Junior Pope was struggling to survive. Yes, our producers, they blacklisted him and so many others.

Junior Pope don’t see work in Asaba. He hustles outside, Enugu, Owerri, Lagos to work, to put food on his table. Most people, if not for E money, Emoney bought him his car. Junior p00p was driving one jalupi car like that when I came to Asaba. Emoney bought him a car, a good car, the one that he’s using now for the past four years now, if I’m not mistaken.

Junior Pope is a hustler. Everybody shouting, Adanma luke, Adanma Luke, Adanma Luke k!|lEd Junior Pope. How? Are you people giving him job?

Nobody’s giving him job. That’s why he’s going to Anam to shoot. Because if Junior Pope is busy, like every other artist here in Asaba, what will he be doing in Anam? Even just like me, I can’t go to Anam for one billion. Why? How? Even with the life jackets.”

Additionally, he remarked that pain serves as a reminder, conveying a message about the impermanence of existence. In his own words, he expressed:

“I have seen pain.

I have lived with pain.

Pain has taught me that life is temporary.

Pain has reminded me to love one another cos we won’t be here forever.

Pain has taught me to celebrate each day of my life.

We reported a day back that Yul Edochie had stirred backlash for celebrating TC Okafor, one of the survivors of the Anam River accident, which claimed Junior Pope’s life.

Taking to his Instagram page, Yul congratulated him for surviving death as he rained prayers on him.

Taking to his comment section, many dragged him for shunning Junior Pope as the actor didn’t put up a post mourning him. Many stated that because Junior Pope failed to support his marriage to another Judy Austin, hence, his hatred for him.

Reacting to their curses and death prayers, Yul put up a prayerful message which stated that as long as his heart is clean and he doesn’t wish his fellow human evil, whoever wishes him evil will be put to shame.

Why do Nigerians seize every opportunity to criticize a grieving widow– Mary by atoluwash(m) : 1:02 pm On Apr 14

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku recently took to her Instagram page to address a concerning trend among Nigerians: the tendency to criticize grieving widows. With examples ranging from Mohbad's wife to Junior Pope's wife, she questioned why such behavior persists.

She highlighted instances where even tragic events like a husband's death in a plane crash are unfairly attributed to the wife, with some suggesting she had a hand in it spiritually.

Sarcastically quoting the common refrain, "She frustrated him and he boarded the flight to find peace in the air," she shed light on the harmful narratives widows face during their mourning.

“Why do Nigerians seize every chance to criticize a grieving widow?

This is coming hours after a Twitter user, identified as Papi Jnr had made a strong allegation against Junior Pope’s wife, Jennifer Awele, accusing her of sleeping with rich men.

In a since-deleted tweet, he claimed that the event planner had frustrated the life of the actor as their marriage had been on a rock before the news of his death.

His tweet coincides with his colleague and friend, Dave Ogbeni’s revelation that all wasn’t well with the actor.

Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant, Yul Edochie, has addressed criticism he received for not publicly mourning the passing of his colleague, Junior Pope.

In response, many followers criticized Yul for not acknowledging Junior Pope's death with a post of condolence. Some suggested that Yul's apparent disregard stemmed from alleged disagreements between Junior Pope and him, particularly relating to Yul's marriage to Judy Austin.

In reply to the negative comments and even death wishes, Yul shared a message emphasizing his commitment to maintaining a pure heart and not wishing harm upon others. He expressed confidence that those who harbor ill will towards him will ultimately face their own consequences.

Alexx Ekubo ponders fragile nature of life, mourns Junior Pope by atoluwash(m) : 3:39 am On Apr 16

Nollywood star Alexx Ekubo grieves the loss of his fellow actor, Junior Pope, and other crew members in a tragic boating accident. Reflecting on Instagram, he ponders the fragility of life, where one moment someone is alive, and the next, gone.

Expressing disbelief at the recent accident during his brother's birthday celebration, he shares his struggle to comprehend the immense pain and confusion the families of the victims must endure.

Alexx admits to being unable to attend events or fulfill his usual obligations, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the tragedy. He offers prayers for the departed souls and asks for divine strength to support the grieving families through their immeasurable loss.

His words: “What is the meaning of life? One minute we are here, the next minute we are not. The tragedy of the boat accident that happened days ago, still has me shocked to my bones. While I was celebrating my birthday, others were fighting for their lives. I haven’t been able to attend any event or function properly since then, as I can only imagine the unbearable pain & utter confusion the families of all those whose lives were lost are in.

It’s incomprehensible the amount of senseless & avoidable deaths we are faced with each day in this country.
More shocking & heartbreaking is the merry-go-round during a critical emergency, the sheer display of ignorance, nonchalance & high-level illiteracy. May we be surrounded by people with wisdom, & human sympathy in our helpless moment, & not those more interested in creating content out of our situation. Dear God, please accept the souls of Jnr Pope, Abigail Frederick, Precious Oforum, Joseph Anointing & any other, forgive them their sins & grant them eternal passage to heaven. Please oh Lord, give their families divine strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. If they’ve ever needed you, they need you now. To those who survived this mishap, or are affected by it directly or indirectly & are dealing with the trauma, please God comfort them on every side. To us all, let this be a reminder that life is fickle & but a fleeting mirage. May we tread carefully & go through life knowing that none of us knows which day will be our last. Yesterday it was #MohBad today is #JnrPope&Co tomorrow it can be anyone. Death is final, Life is fragile. What is the meaning of life? One minute we are here, the next minute we are not.”
