Gunmen attacked a market in Akpanya - Agbedo Community in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area in Kogi State. They killed one trader and kidnapped many more.

The gunmen arrived in large numbers on Sunday, August 14th at around 2 p.m. and began shooting randomly to terrorize the crowd.

Johnson, a shop owner from the area, was struck by stray bullets and later died. Edwin Etodo, another victim of the attack was taken with many others and forced to the bush.

Daily Trust reports that the kidnappers have demanded N20M ransom from victims' families.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, William Aya, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, August 15, stated that it was a case of invasion in the market whereby Johnson who owns a shop was killed, and Edwin was abducted along with many others in the market to an unknown destination.

He said that police officers had sent a crack team into the area to control the situation and were working with stakeholders to take action against the suspects to bring them to justice.
