The Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on Friday announced the arrest of five suspected armed robbers who had planned to attack some banks in Lagos.

The IRT Commander, ACP Abba Kyari, said the arrested suspects also participated in the killing of four policemen and an Army Captain in Ikorodu in April, this year.

The commander said that the suspects were arrested at Ikorodu and Ajah areas of Lagos State, as they perfected the planned attacks on the banks.

He said their arrest was part of the IGP Ibrahim Idris’ effort to neutralise the threat posed on Lagos by the notorious new militant leader called America.

According to him, America was also responsible for last week’s kidnap of school children in Epe.

“Five key members of the notorious militant group led by America, who have perfected plans to attack and rob five banks in Lagos have been arrested in Ikorodu and Ajah areas of Lagos state.

“They were all arrested after several days of unrelenting follow-ups by the IRT.

“Four of the arrested suspects are militants, who were sent by their gang leader, America, to survey the banks.

“The team was also to hire two operational buses that will be used to convey the militants to and from the river banks, to the commercial banks.

“The fifth suspect is a security man in one of the banks targeted to be robbed,” Kyari alleged.

The commander, however, noted that the banks targeted were located in Lekki and Ajah areas of Lagos state.

He said that the suspects confessed to have chosen the targeted banks because of their proximity to the river banks.

“All suspects arrested have confessed to the planned robberies and confirmed that they were sent by America, their boss in the creeks, to survey the banks, together with the bank security man who allegedly brought the job to the militants.

“Also, America had fixed Thursday, June 1, as the date for the attack on the banks, before his boys were arrested by the IRT.

“The suspects are cooperating with detectives in the investigations,’’ Kyari added.

The Senate Committee on Works has recommended an increase in the pump price of petrol from N145 to N150 for the implementation of the proposed National Roads Fund (NRF).

The recommendation came a year after President Muhammadu Buhari raised the pump price of fuel from N87 to N145 per litre.

The increase was part of the recommendations made by the Senate Committee on Works, chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano) on the National Roads Fund (Est. Etc) Bill (SB.218).

The report was scheduled for consideration during plenary yesterday, as it was on the order paper. It was however suspended for another legislative day due to time constraint.

The committee recommended fuel levy of N5 chargeable per litre on any volume of petrol and diesel products imported into the country and locally refined Petroleum products.

A copy of the report obtained revealed that 12 out of the 15 members of the committee have endorsed it.

Senators who endorsed the report are, Senators Gaya, Clifford Ordia, Barnabas Gemade, Mao Ohuabunwa , Bukar Abba Ibrahim, Ben Bruce, Gilbert Nnaji, Abubakar Kyari, Ibrahim Danbaba, Mustapha Bukar, Sani Mustapha and Buruji Kashamu.

Those whose signatures were not appended on the report are, Senators Olusola Adeyeye, Biodun Olujimi and Ahmad Ogembe. The report has been distributed to senators.

Under the sources of revenue for the National roads fund, the committee recommended as follows, “fuel levy of N5 chargeable per litre on any volume of petrol and diesel products imported into Nigeria and on locally refined petroleum products”.

The committee also recommended toll fees; a percentage not exceeding 10 percent of any revenue paid as user charge per vehicle on any Federal road designated as toll road.

It further recommended international vehicle transit charges, inter-state mass transit user charge of 0.5 percent deductible from the fare paid by passengers to commercial mass transit operators and axle load control charges.

In the report, Gaya explained that the road fund was designed to address the poor funding of roads in the country.

He said the fund when established would serve as a repository of revenues from road user related charges and other sources for financing, which shall be managed and administered for routine and periodic maintenance works on roads in the country.

An aide of the Senate President on Print Media, Mr. Chuks Okocha said recommendation was still a proposal and that it has not been debated.

The little girl suffered horrific injuries from the assault in Egypt’s al-Daqahliyah Governorate, north-east of Cairo.

After the act, he ran away but reportedly confessed to his crime after being tracked down and arrested.

A criminal court recommended the death penalty in April and referred the case to the top religious authority, the Grand Mufti, for a non-binding but legally required opinion.

The defendant may appeal the verdict to the Court of Cassation, the country’s top court, which may uphold it or order a retrial.

The victim’s lawyer, Tarek al-Awady, told Reuters:

”I hope the verdict is upheld so that society is assured that deterrence exists.”

The girl’s irate relatives – along with many social media users in the country, which was left shocked by the incident – had been calling for justice in the form of the death penalty.

But the toddler’s granddad said:

“Execution is not even enough.

“I don’t know how a 35-year-old person can do this to a child who is a year and eight months old, who cannot even speak yet and still wears nappies.”

The tot’s distraught mum, who filed the complaint against the attacker, echoed these thoughts when speaking to journalists.

This week, the comedian was swiftly and widely criticized for sharing an image of herself holding up a prop meant to represent President Donald Trump's severed, bl**dy head. She was soon fired from her New Year's Eve hosting duties with CNN and several of her shows were canceled by the venues.

The 56-year-old comedian and her lawyers faced the controversy head on with a press conference they hosted Friday afternoon. While surrounded by reporters, photographers and video cameras, Griffin told everyone watching that she does not fear President Donald Trump, who she claims is using her as a distraction from his political actions. She further alleged that he and his family are personally trying to "ruin her life forever."

It's been two weeks since the music world was stunned by the sudden death of Chris Cornell, the pioneering singer/songwriter whose inimitable vocal stylings helped Soundgarden and Audioslave rise to the top of the charts.

Just hours after his body was found, medical examiners in Wayne County, Michigan ruled Cornell's death a suicide.

Cornell's widow, Vicky Karayiannis, and others close to the musician expressed doubts about the coroner's findings.


Karayiannis maintained that drugs played a role in Cornell's death, a theory that shocked fans, as the singer had been sober for nearly 15 years prior to hsi passing.

Nevertheless, Karyiannis issued a statement expressing her belief that the results of a pending toxicology report would corroborate her beliefs.

Today, TMZ obtained the results of that report, and it seems that Karayiannis was correct in her assertion that Cornell was under the influence at the time of his passing.

The coroner who examined Cornell's body confirmed that the following drugs were found in his system:

Naloxone (Narcan), Butalbital (sedative), Lorazepam (Ativan), Pseudoephedrine (decongestant), and unspecified barbiturates.


Witnesses claimed to have seen puncture marks on Cornell's arms, but it appears those were the result of Narcan injections made by paramedics in an effort to save the 52-year-old's life.

Shortly after her husband's death, Karayiannis stated that she knew Cornell was intoxicated just from speaking with him on the phone.

She asked the singer's bodyguard, who was staying in the same Detroit hotel, to check on Cornell, but tragically, it was too late.

An apparently drug-addled Cornell had hung himself in his room with an exercise belt.

Karayiannis issued the following statement in response to today's findings:


“Many of us who know Chris well, noticed that he wasn’t himself during his final hours and that something was very off. We have learned from this report that several substances were found in his system.

"After so many years of sobriety, this moment of terrible judgment seems to have completely impaired and altered his state of mind.

"Something clearly went terribly wrong and my children and I are heartbroken and are devastated that this moment can never be taken back."

She concluded:

“We very much appreciate all of the love we have received during this extremely difficult time and are dedicated to helping others in preventing this type of tragedy.”

Our thoughts go out to Cornell's widow and children during this tremendously difficult time.

The father of one hospitalized attendee wrote on Facebook, "This means more to us than all the amazing things people have done this week. When your daughter asks after her 2nd operation: ‘Is Ariana OK?' So happy she came I could burst! Never seen Jaden so happy! Even cried again myself."

Jaden gushed on Twitter alongside a photo of Grande kissing her on the forehead, "I got to meet my queen today."


Tickets for the fundraising event sold out in less than six minutes, with approximately 45,000 jumping at the chance to give back to the victims and their families. Those who were at Grande's May 22 concert when the suicide bombing took place were offered free tickets; the remainder went on sale for $52.

Extra safety precautions will be taken at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, with additional security checks and increased police presence.

A South Carolina school bus driver, Teresa Strobel helped get 56 students off the vehicle before it burst into flames, Tuesday morning in Duncan, USA.

According to WSPA, the bus en route to Duncan Elementary, Beech Springs Intermediate and Byrnes High School when two students at the back of the bus noticed smoke.

The students informed the driver and she got each of the 56 students off the bus and asked the transportation office to call 911.

The bus then caught fire and firefighters arrived on scene to extinguish the blaze.

Superintendent Scott Turner told WSPA that she was able to evacuate everyone in under a minute as he is very proud of her actions.

He said:

“She did exactly what she was trained to do. She was calm. She kept the students calm. She made sure they were safe. They were her first priority. She’s our hero today."

The school district took to their Facebook page to notify parents about the incident.

They wrote:

District Five Schools of Spartanburg County has many reasons to be grateful today! This morning, just after 7:00 a.m., one of our buses carrying students on their way to Duncan Elementary, Beech Springs Intermediate and Byrnes Freshman Academy, caught fire.

Two 9th grade students immediately noticed the smoke, and alerted their driver. Teresa Stroble, a 7 year veteran driver and teacher assistant for our district, did exactly as she was trained and quickly and calmly evacuated all 56 students from the bus, and got them to a safe location. She is a true hero!!!

We are so thankful for the quick action of the Duncan Fire Department in putting the fire out, and all district administrators who responded and helped with what could have been a very tragic situation.

As all of our school buses are owned by the state of South Carolina, the investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing, and will be completed by staff at the state level. We are so blessed that all of our students, and Ms. Stroble are safe!

Golf legend Tiger Woods has been arrested by police in Jupiter, Florida on the suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

According to CNN, Woods, who is currently rehabilitating from back surgery was arrested around 3AM on Monday.

Jupiter police spokesperson Kristin Tightler said that he was booked into a local jail but was released on his on recognizance with no bond at 10.50AM.


What is not known is whether Woods tested positive for alcohol or drugs, and if he was the only person in the vehicle, as an arrest report has not been made available.

This January Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman announced on Facebook that his official online store would begin accepting bitcoin payments, calling it “the currency of the future.”

A 29-year-old Guinean seeking to flee his country has attempted to enter the territory of the Spanish nation clandestinely. Customs officers discovered it hidden in a car bumper. Somehow, the stunned immigrant managed to be extirpated.

]The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled on the definition of the crime of bestiality: judges have ruled that only penetration cases can be characterized as crimes, the CBC reports.

This legal decision follows the trial of a man convicted of s*xual assaults on his daughters-in-law for several years and sentenced to sixteen years in prison. One of the charges against him was forcing one of his daughters-in-law to commit bestial acts (in this case, putting peanut butter on the genitals for their dogs to lick them).




But he appealed the charge to the Supreme Court of British Columbia and in 2015 he was acquitted of zoophilia. The Canadian government then appealed this decision to the Supreme Court, which recently upheld the acquittal. Following this decision, the prisoner’s sentence will be reduced by two years.

In this case, judges consider it is for parliamentarians, not the Court, to broaden the definition of zoophilia if they consider that the current provisions do not adequately protect children and animals.

A woman from Kitwe, in Zambia, who was wrongly diagnosed with HIV, is now angry and worried about all the anti-retrovirals (ARV) she took for long months, apart form the emotional turmoil her personal life went through.



24-year-old Chipulu Mulenga, of Luangwa Township, went for a Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) out of responsibility for the child she was carrying.

Mulenga went into complete shock when she was tested and turned out to be HIV-positive.

“I got scared and I had lost my temper. I was also confused, especially after being told that my husbands results were non-reactive,” Mulenga recalled.

She immediately started an anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment, which gave her a lot of undesirable side-effects, such as sleeping for long hours, and experiencing blackouts.

At first, her husband assured her and her parents that he would take care of her, but over the months he started changing. He even started shying away from having intercourse.

After all this anguish, she finally gave birth. But she was in for another huge surprise. A second routine HIV test came out negative. She performed more tests just to make sure… and in effect, she was not infected with the AIDS virus.

With all the evidence at hand, Mulenga went to the original clinic which had tested her positive. Once again, they performed another test… negative!

The medical officers simply advised her to stop taking the HIV drugs, but Mulenga wants justice. She says the anguish and emotional distress she has went through has been too terrible. “My marriage is on the verge of collapse. My husband no longer supports us. He calls me ‘sick’ and he no longer provides for the family,” she regretfully informed local media. Furthermore, she is worried about the effects the drug might have taken on her body.

The Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) will help Mulenga on her case against the clinic. Also, other institutions -such as the Zambia National Women’s Lobby and even the Ministry of Health- are investigating this woman’s case.

And, if you can believe it, many people also compared her recent behavior to Scott Disick's.

Those people are saying that while Scott's off with a variety of hot young things, she's doing the same thing with Younes Bendjima, who's 24 years old -- she's 38.

Scott has been in Cannes partying without his children, but so has Kourtney -- so according to these naysayers, Kourtney is just as bad as he is.

According to the UN Economic Commission for Africa, about $1trillion has been stolen from Africa to western countries illegally.

The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) says an estimated 50 billion dollars leaves the shore of the continent illicitly mostly to the Western countries, every year.
Mr Adeyinka Adeyemi, a senior adviser at ECA, told our Correspondent in New York that illicit financial flow had serious negative development impacts on the continent.
Adeyemi also said that at least one trillion dollars had left the continent illicitly over the last 50 years, saying the figures were arrived at after decades of research on the issue.
The UN official said African countries did not need aid from developed countries if the illicit assets from the continent over the decades are repatriated.
He, therefore, challenged the destination countries to hold their in exchange for the return of these illicit assets to their countries of origin, mainly from Africa.
“The issue of illicit financial flow is very serious in terms of the negative development impacts on Africa.

“If you look at when we say 50 billion dollars leaving Africa every year illicitly, in the last 50 years we estimate that one trillion dollars left Africa illicitly.

“This is roughly equal to the total amount of so-called aid that Africa received at the same time.

“So if you do the math, hold on to your aid, we would still be okay and we would keep our money and we would our priority,” he said.
Adeyemi, who was the Focal Point for the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), said the issue of illicit financial flow was very important to the international community, they are talking about it.
He added that the Financing for Development meeting in Addis Ababa spoke about it but stressed that the pace of action currently was not yet where Africa wanted.
“We think that if we have the necessary action today, we can stop a huge chunk of these flows because what it thrives on is very simple – it’s secrecy.

“Secrecy knowing that you will not get it; that’s why it’s illicit; you will not know it. They do it with the complicity of government officials and all these other stuffs.

“Our study, however, shows that only five per cent of the flows can be traceable to official corruption,” he said.
Adeyemi, who is in charge of the Regional Integration and Infrastructure Cluster in the Capacity Development Division, blamed the developed countries and other international financial institutions of complicity illicit financial flows.
The UN official also rejected the idea that returning stolen wealth from destination countries to countries of origin on conditionality.
“Every time we go somewhere and speak, we hear ‘you people are corrupt’, ‘Africa is corrupt’ but this is not supported.
“About 75 per cent of these illicit flows are directly traceable to the behaviours or actions or inactions of our trans-nationals.

“When we look at only trade mis-invoicing, we found that this is huge and weighty.

“So if the international community wants to help Africa, let us stop this unnecessary conversation that’s going nowhere on why we should link illicit financial flows with other things, with governance, with aid.

“These things are very important but this is not where the issue is. Africa is the only region in the world that has African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).

“This is a governance mechanism where Presidents tell themselves ‘you have been bad, go and improve yourself’.

“My point is that the World Bank and the IMF have very little to teach Africa in terms of governance in this kind of stuff because we are already doing something,” he said.
APRM, founded in 2003, is a mutually agreed instrument voluntarily acceded to by the Member States of the African Union as a self-monitoring mechanism.

Ransford said he had shared the video to create awareness about the health benefits of massage.

Some male social Facebook users who watched the video questioned whether they were in the right professions and expressed the desire to become massage therapists.

The latest shocker comes in the form of a 9-year-old girl from Atlanta, Georgia who aspires to be just like Whitney Houston.

Her name is Angelica Hale, and she was surprisingly not shy about chatting with the judges before her performance.

"I'm nine-years-old, and I just found out that I'm going to be a big sister," she said to the crowd with a grin on her face.

The young girl then went on to chat about how happy she was to be on the show.

"I'm so happy to be here, because, like, I've been watching your show on Youtube and now I feel, like, like I'm in it!"

The judges and audience seemed taken with the young girl's confidence, but nothing could prepare them for the performance the youngster was about to put on for them.

Simply put, it was breathtaking.

She performed Andra Day's "Rise Up." The vocals were there. Something tells us the kid is going to get her wish and be a superstar one day.


Simon looked away at the beginning of the performance, as though he was waiting for the child to not hit the huge notes of the song.

His facial expression changed dramatically as her voice rose throughout. He was probably sizing her up for a recording contract.
