Woman Goes Gaga After Getting Electricity Bill Worth $284 billion during... by Fgreen(m) : 9:54 am On Dec 27, 2017

A woman got the shock of her life when she received an electricity bill balance of $284, 460, 000, 000, with a first payment of $28, 176.

The Pennsylvania woman, Mary Horomanski, 58, had assessed her power bill on the internet when her husband and one of her sons noticed her reaction. They asked if she was okay.

“I opened it up and there it was,” Horomanski told The Washington Post.

“It wasn’t due until November of 2018. It was like, well, I guess we have a year to come up with this billion-dollar bill.”

Horomanski said, for a moment, she couldn’t believe what she saw and had to take off her reading glasses.

Recounting her experience on Tuesday, Horomanski said, “I’m looking around the room and they’re looking at me now, ’cause I’ve got this funny look on my face.

“When you see something like that, your heart starts beating, you break out into a little sweat, like, ‘What on earth just happened?’”

“We had Christmas lights outside, but we don’t have the ‘[National Lampoon’s] Christmas Vacation’ lights. And I’m looking at my Christmas tree, and I’m like, no, that wouldn’t have caused it . . .” she said.

According to Horomanski, she sent a picture of the electricity bill, via her phone to her oldest son, who immediately contacted the electricity company.

The company quickly responded that it was an error.

The correct bill was $284.46 – an amount she said, was a little high compared to the previous month’s bill of $161.

Horomanski also sent a picture of the bill to her local newspaper, The Erie Times News, which wrote about the mistake in a story that went viral.

When The Erie Times News contacted the electricity company, Penelec, the company’s spokesman, Mark Durbin, said, he didn’t know the cause of the error.

“I can’t recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars. We appreciate the customer’s willingness to reach out to us about the mistake.” Durbin said.
